Rossendales, what now?

I appear to be charged excessive fees on an old council tax account, where do I go from here?

I've been charged 2 x visit fees which bailiff (see his general conduct in Dotstar's thread) did not enter my property.

I agreed to pay at end of month (tomorrow) but I am not happy re these following fees:

£110 van fee (he did not attend in a van, he attended in a 4x4 and I did not answer door)

£31 levy fee. (levy not even made)

I've spoken to the council and they say they can't take it back.

Help please, what legal channels do I go down?

Oh. I wasn't expecting that.

I phoned the council again and got through to a lovely advisor in the 'back office' where they speak to people who have had their accounts passed onto the bailiffs.

I informed her that this agent acting on behalf of the council was adding illegal fees and didn't know what to say when I asked him why a levy fee was added when a levy hadn't actually and would not be made.

She looked into my account and said she's getting someone else to look at it and would phone me back.

Meanwhile, I batten down the hatches, empty the outhouses (doors are locked but this guy has no regard for the law and I don't want my kids bikes taken) park car away from house.

So lady from council phones me back. Now bear in mind, mr Billy Bullsh*tter Bailiff wanted £340 for this account.

Lady from council tells me she's spoken to bailiff, got the account back but has discovered a discrepancy on my account, instead of the £199.50 that I was hounded by bailiffs for, the account is actually only oweing £59 which I'm paying tomorrow.

So for anyone else up against these bullies, please please please stay strong. I could have been intimidated into paying a lot of money needlessly.

i hope our mutual friend gets his commupance. I've emailed the council again, demanding an explanation and questioning why they are still allowing this man to operate.

  • Way to go Honeybee.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
