I emailed the promotions dept of the Mail on Tuesday and was asked for address details to confirm I would be receiving one. Have had no contact back from them. Told them I wasn't going to take matters further because of amount involved but I despise being taken for a ride and none of their publications will be bought by me again. When I'm angry, I go the full hog!!!
  • I got the email today:

    HI,

Thanks for your email. As you are aware this product has been extremely delayed due to stock issues.

MMC are currently dispatching the players, so you should receive it within the next couple of weeks.

Please be aware that Expansive Media are unable to track the whereabouts of your order as this promotion is now being managed me MMC.

If you would like further assistance, please call MMC on – 01420 525500

Please also find attached the instructions for the Mp3 player and a link to download the soundtrack.

We sincerely apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to thank you for your patience in this matter.

    Best Regards,

    Expansive Media

Very true, especially as the attached instruction leaflet I got is for a 2Gig player!!

    I'm not holding my breath.

Update: I have just received mine and, as someone else has mentioned, it is only a 128mb. Emails to the supplier and Mail have been sent demanding a refund after being subjected to fraudulent practice!

I just got in touch with MMC and I emailed them the specification that was sent to me by ExpansiveMedia. No idea whether anything will be done but they said that I can get a full refund if I want one.

Make sure you keep the envelope that it came in as it has a return address on it and you don't have to pay any postage to send it back.

They also said that they had been in touch with ExpansiveMedia but hadn't heard anything back yet (they emailed/called on Monday this week).

They took my number down and said they would be in touch if they heard anything back from ExpansiveMedia.

BTW, I also got a 118MB one (I thought it was supposed to be 1GB for some reason). But I am thoroughly confused - the spec says 2GB, and others have said they thought it was 512MB. Does anyone have a concrete answer as to what it it actually *should* be?

Either way, 118MB is a pathetic waste of £4.50 (I agree with a previous poster about how it probably cost a total of 50p to post).

    Hope that helps.

I will let you guys know if I hear anything further.

I too have sent back my player after getting a reply from someone at the Mail advising me of the same details you have listed, friend,

For info, here is a link to the original offer, you will see that a 512mb player was advertised:

    Update on my post above:

I had a call from someone called Debbie at the Daily Mail saying that they had been in touch with ExpansiveMedia and would be supplying the 512MB player as advertised. All I have to do is return the 118MB I received in the original envelope back to sender (free!) and they will send out the new one to me.

If you have lost your envelope, I believe there is another freepost address you can send your player to:

    FREEPOST
    NAT23809
    ALTON
    HAMPSHIRE
    GU34 4RQ

I am also including a brief covering letter with my address and what the issue was. Hopefully I will get the 'proper' player shortly!

Update from me: As posted before, I returned my player and today received a cheque for £4.50 back from the Mail which is what I asked for.

Will be interested to hear from amarh111 to see if a replacement as advertised has been sent.

I'm just glad that, as far as I am concerned, this sorry episode is now closed nearly 3 months after the offer was published!!

Same scenario - waited ages only to receive the inferior 128Mb model, returned it a few weeks ago but today received the replacement 512Mb version - looks identical.
No instructions (again), no apology, just stuffed in an over large padded envelope and no refund or mention of my return postage costs.
A very poorly handled promotion by the Daily Mail and their agents is my take on it all. free should mean free and not rip-off P&P costs. They are such small items why not just give them to Tesco or similar to distribute as is sometimes done with DVD's.
