Chicken Cheats

A whole chicken is cheaper than buying portions or fillets.
Buy some poultry shears:T
On a reasonable chicken you will yield 750g of chicken breast or fillets, and the legs can be used for casseroling etc
I worked out that you save more than £2 by chopping it up yourself. If you eat chicken once a week that's a £104 per year saving.

I agree....I buy free range chickens from Aldi or Lidl and portion them just as described but then I boil the carcass for stock.
I strip the meat from the carcass and there is usually enouigh meat to make a small pie when mixed with leeks or mushrooms in a white sauce.0 -
I only use/eat chicken breast fillets and find the best place to buy them is from a halal butcher/ethnic store

Another good chicken cheat is to marinade your fresh portions in the fridge for an hour and then freeze them. When you take them out to defrost they continue to slowly marinade.
My favourite marinade is
2 Cloves garlic crushed
Sprig of thyme chopped
1/2" cube fresh ginger chopped
1 de-seeded chilli finely chopped
1 tsp paprika powder
2 tbls of olive oil
Just roast in the oven. Great with veg, or rice.~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
Most supermarkets charge £11.50 a kg for skinless chicken breasts and only £9.90 a kg for breasts with skin !...now if someone has money to blow like that they are crazy or like the skin  .In 3 seconds the skin comes off ..nearly as bad as that tme Sainsbury tried to market a ready peeled orange :rotfl:"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

We have started doing the same: two British chickens - usually on an offer - remove both breasts (no bones, stir fry for three) and both legs (with bones, makes a casserole for three), make stock from the carcasses/ wings, with enough meat from the two birds for another meal for two. :TDeclutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
