ideas needed please for cheap/free family activities in highlands

Getting married in November in a tiny little castle in Glenisla,Angus.Total number of people 12.Staying there for a week,sat-sat,getting married on the Thursday and need ideas to keep family occupied before dinner on Friday.I had this great idea that I wanted to arrange a luxurious day, archery, falconry, catered lunch.I have got quotes back and the cheapest is just short of £100 per person for 3 hours worth of activities and a basic lunch.I got a shock that archery is £45 a person:eek: and falconry demonstration the same.I dont know why something like that would be charged per person as we are just watching as a group.Anyway,I cant afford it and I still need to come up with something for the day after the wedding.
Anyone with any ideas of stuff I could do in the castle or in the grounds which is cheap or free and fun for the family?

I have even looked into a guided walk around the glen but thats charged per person too!over £300 seems an awful lot to pay someone to go for a 1 hour walk.

Rather than paying for a guided walk why not just go for a walk? Try the local tourist information centre for details of activities. Unfortunately most places do charge per person especially if they don't do groups - so try looking for a group booking although prices may still be prohibitive.

Why not see if you can hire some large games like jenga that can be played outside?
  • Thanks.I do know a bit about the history of the castle myself so if I do a bit more research into the surrounding area I could take them on a history walk myself.Definately will need a walk to clear the hangovers I should think.
Theres garden games in the castle we could use in the grounds.May be a bit cold for that though.

Try this place - pony trekking its not an unreasonable price and you don't need to have had previous riding experience.

Just wrap up warm because it will be cold in November whatever you do indoors or out.
  • I am using that stables for earlier in the week just for myself and dd,its not something the others would like.I think I will stick to a walk for everyone and will look for a local guide.

How about doing a treasure hunt?

Just thought, when it gets to the summer sales look out for outdoor games to buy and take, I'm sure M&S do giant noughts and crosses, and Jenga.
