  • Slow cookers are not designed for re-heating. Low is for cooking the food on low and it's likely to be overcooked by the time you get home. Warm is to keep it warm for short periods but I don't think it would be a good idea to keep it on warm all day. Chill the stew and heat it up in the micro or oven when you get home.

I often cook and eat a stew one day and them put the slow cooker on low the following day and eat it again. It only needs 3-4 hours second time round. It does get piping hot through and I've never had a problem

I was just going to throw it all in the slow cooker tom now with added stock and thin sliced raw potatoes .. do you think this will be ok on a low heat .. soz about the long report

I wouldn't mix raw and cooked. Okay to add more stock but I'd cook potatoes separately when you get home.

If the portion is for one I'd just reheat in a saucepan, dumplings and all.

Doesn't that rather depend on how long you are going to be out? Or when the SC is switched on. You can go off to work in the morning and have another member of the family switch it on later.

I can pop home from work at lunch time and put my SC on, and I can take my lunch at any time I like. I also have a timer switch that will switch the SC on at a time of my choosing, I don't have to be there.

Its just trial and error and finding out what you feel comfortable doing and how you've stored your food.
If the food stored correctly and heated through properly I can't see a problem.
