OK, I guess the seaside is out, then. Perhaps a lottery win or premium bond win that would allow you to afford to stay in your current house would be better, especially if it afforded you a gardener to do the heavy digging and mowing and then you could build your own 'Frugaldom' garden, raised to a level that suited your medical condition? I'll think of something, don't you worry. This situation you have looming will be beaten, I am confident of thatI reserve the right not to spend.

really odd to hear someone else is thinking about christmas dinner already ...........i have a few presents for relatives but nothing for the kids yet although i have been eyeing up Mr m frozen turkeys especially with the £5 off vouchers i am hoping to produce enough spuds and veg for christmas dinner (parsnips red cabbage sprouts and carrots if i am lucky) I have already made the stuffing balls
going to make rowan jelly instead of cranberry sauce (if i have identified the trees properly?) and no one likes pudding except me and my mum so probably make a cheesecake
Already made loads of wine and some beer(need to do more) i will be cooking for 10 adults and 2 kids this year
Is it just me or is anyone else this organised too:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
SFT hope you have good news today

I have been banking all my Mr T vouchers and have also been putting £1 per week into an old Building Society Account (online transfer in/passbook withdrawal), have to go miles out of my way to access the cash, so won't touch it before Christmas (this is to pay for the meat).
I also put a set amount aside each child benefit in readiness for the boys presents. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

Taka - I think I have been in that stadium, if it's Murrayfield. That was the first place I ever attended a live, open air concert when David Bowie was there, supported by Thomson Twins and Bauhaus. Good grief! How old have I got?:rotfl:
) listening to the rehearsals - they went on for days! Ummmmm you do realise HOW long ago that was? 26yrs ago almost to the day -28th June 1983 according to google  :rotfl:
I'm loving this thread today - I feel all warm and fuzzy! It's my favourite thread on MSE by a long shot and has definitely changed my life for the better too. Thank-you all :T especially Nyk for starting it! :T :j Long may it continue...
Thinking of old-timers (thread wise) has anyone heard from Janey recently? I really hope she is ok too - she had such a lot happen in a short space of time. I really miss her posts...
I pay into a regular saver for Xmas. My family can never decide what they want until the last minute (if I buy too early they tend to buy whatever it was themselves and then I'm stuck with it...) so its timed to mature in early November. I've only got ~5 people to buy big presents for + several cheap secret santa style prezzies so it's never too bad and this still leaves enough time to buy stuff. Max secret santa spend is £5 each - already got most of this yrs.Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Hello all. I have such a headache but think it may be easing now the thunder storms are going away.
I am in less of a grump than earlier. Still upset with DH a bit. I may just take DS and go on holiday anyway. I know that is selfish (and I won't enjoy it nearly as much) but I don't consider it any more selfish than DH is being. Of course, I wouldn't dream of going away if we hadn't already allocated that week to doing so.
Anyway, I really feel physically bad when DH and I are in disagreement. Decided to go shopping to ease the pain. Luckily we have our list of frugal wants so even if we go on a blowout, at least it's for stuff on our lists. We went to a local charity shop and bought a wardrobe for DS' room. Half the price we wuld have paid for a newer, inferior model and take home the same day too. DS is very pleased with it and so are we. DH is reorganising. We're trying to reorganise/declutter ready for when DH starts his course.
Love to you all. I was wondering about Janey too.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Brought some paper rubbish home today in preparation for our paper logs.
Got a refund from solicitors so we are no longer in debt! Hurrah!
Will be reading another chapter of my book tonight-about 'The Garden' and reading through my reports..also going to sit outside summer house and watch sunset with Mr SFT...and drink my Chamomile tea.
Have a great evening all!

Hi guys and gals, I'll pass on a message to janey requesting that she post and let everyone know how she is doing. It's the anniversary of Tom's death tomorrow, so I emailed her to let her know we are all thinking of her. I still have a bottle of his homemade wine and can't bring myself to open it, but we may do so tomorrow in his memory. I think he'd probably have appreciated that.
Just getting ready to go for evening stroll to the forest, avec mon carrier bag pour toute les pinecones :rotfl: Managed to get another 10 paper bricks made from what was left of SM's newspapers and they are now outside baking in the sun. In another frugal move, DS wants a High School Mus!cal lunchbag for starting school and I found one in the ipoints rewards list. :j I even had enough points to order one. :T
In another frugal exercise, I ordered DD a lovely tiara for her wedding outfit at about a tenth of the price of the ones she had seen in the wedding shop. If anyone is looking for reasonably priced hair decor, DD found site called www.hair-we-go.co.uk I hadn't heard of it before and I did check via cashback and for any discount vouchers first, but their prices are good even without those. I did use my cashback CC, so not all was in vain. :cool:Ummmmm you do realise HOW long ago that was? 26yrs ago almost to the day -28th June 1983 according to google
Taka, do you need to remind me of that? :rotfl: 26 years ago??
 We DROVE to the concert!
I am REALLY giving my age away now - I'm sure that was the year after I drove down to Middlesbrough just to see Gary Numan in concert without having tickets! :rotfl: We ended up sat with the lighting technicians as the concert was sold out. Anyone remember Tic and Toc? :rotfl: Now I have difficulty remembering the last concert I was at! Umm... Newmarket Nights, Human League, 2003 (I think). I was never really a fan of the band, we got into the concert for free. Newmarket Nights are brilliant if you enjoy that sort of entertainment - full day's racing, drinks, food and then an open air concert that seems to continue through the night and end up with a party somewhere :rotfl:. Weekly concerts from this week until mid August - brilliant fun if you are in that area.
Taka and others there abouts, are you going to the Royal Highland Show? I'd love to go but it's a bit far for a day trip, I'll settle for the more frugal verion with a trip to our local cattle show in August. SM - you MUST be here for that, it's the highlight of the year about here.
OK, off for my walk now, before the sun goes down and the midges increase twenty fold. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Please give Janey my best wishes too x
H2B is at his Uncle's funeral tomorrow. It was only arranged a few days ago, too late really for me to cancel my work trip and go with him. I've never met the uncle, but feel bad about not being there to support h2b. I am however getting to see Seaton Delavel, which I'm very excited about, but feeling bad at the same time...
Am in a lovely hotel in Newcastle, and had a fab meal in a local restaurant on expenses. I'm pleasantly surprised by Newcastle, thought it would be quite run down, but it seems lovely what I've seen of it so far!
Dad is looking after the cat. He was planning to visit at the weekend, so arrived a day early to do cat sitting. She is behaving herself so far, so that's good! There's a big classic car show this weekend, and we're all going to buy lots of car bits and spend vast amounts of money.
I only have my work laptop and realised I don't have my bank account login details with me. They're changing the way they deduct our pensions, so I ought to have more take home pay this month. I haven't had a payslip as I'm not in the office, and can't find out online, so will just have to be patient until I get home tomorrow evening!Live on £11k in 20110 -
