The day is almost here - BR tomorrow 10am!

Well it's the night before BR date, tomorrow, Monday 30th, 10am. Can't believe it's going to happen tomorrow. Still got the last section of my form to fill out, bit late I know, but 'Reason for Bankruptcy' is a hard one to write and explain. I finished work yesterday, so am officially on Maternity Leave now, with 8 weeks till my due date, so glad I am getting this out the way now.

I just want to thank this forum deeply, as I've asked many questions, and they have all been answered for me. I hope I can help someone out in the future, with my experience. I am not sure what I would of done with out you. So thank you xx

  • Thanks Mike, and Phil. Means a lot. I am at Brighton court tomorrow.

How does this sound for my 'reason for bankruptcy' ?? I have no idea how much info they want, or if I have waffled to much in my statement!

"It started with my first credit card, around 10 years ago, shortly after I turned 18. I was young and had no idea how to manage finances. It all seemed to good, with 0% APR etc. I used the card for general living and spending. 1 credit card led to a couple more, and then I decided to get a small loan for a second hand car. As the months went on, I found my 0% interest deals were ending and I was paying high interest, on top of the insurance I took on many of them. I found the payments hard to meet, so I though by getting 1 big loan, I could consolidate and pay it off over a few years with at a manageable monthly rate. This worked out fine for a while, but through my own stupidity, I never cut all the cards up that I had cleared, and once again started using them for day to day spending. It was around the year of 2002 that I moved out of home, used the cards more to live, but found myself even deeper in trouble and in debt. I was paying out about 75% of my wages trying to meet all my minimum payments. It got to the point where I could barely keep my head above water. I had hit a dead end, I could no longer get credit, so I sought advise from the Citizens Advise Bureau. They advised to negotiate my payments with my creditors, which I tried to do, but many refused my offers. I then contacted CCCS, in 2006, and they helped me greatly by setting up a DMP. This was working out really well, but after a year, my partner and I had our first child, so whilst on maternity leave, my payments were reduced. I went back to work part time, where I increased my payments slightly. I had been with CCCS for 3 years, and my situation has now has changed again as we are expecting our second child in 8 weeks time. I contacted CCCS 2 months ago to explain all this, and after a lengthy discussion, they advised bankruptcy, as a DMP for me now would take almost 30 years to clear."
