Wedding rings - light vs medium weight

Hello all

I tried on some wedding rings today and decided on a 2mm court. I plan on getting it from www.bandsoflove.co.uk but wondered if you could help.

A 'light' court ring is £139.99 and weighs 2.2g. A 'medium' court ring is £174.99 and weighs 2.9g.

Which would you choose? Clearly the light court saves you a significant amount of money (and brings me in way under budget :)) but will I notice the lack of weight??

Can anyone help? I'm not sure which to go for!

Many thanks in advance - Becs x

I honestly don't think you are going to notice a difference of 0.7 grams once you are wearing it tbh

I (personally) would go for the money saving option. :money:

i don't think you'll notice the weight, but you may notice whether it doesn't "stick out" as far as your engagement ring. personally i think they look nice when the two rings are about the same thickness round their thickest point. not sure if bands of love give thickness; some other websites do; but their light wouldn't necessarily be the same as bands of love light, if you see what I mean. weddingrings-direct.co.uk is one that gives thickness and also weight once you put in your ring size; this may help you work out how thick your ring from bands of love would be. (eg on that website, light rings are 1.3mm deep at deepest point)

I ended up with a heavier ring and I love the way it feels compared to the lighter ones that I looked at.

  • my advise is biased as i am a jeweller but;

I think you need to try the rings on, for this you need to go to your local independant jeweller ie; not part of a large chain.
The different weights of ring available willl sit very differently with your engagement but you will not know this until you try them on, a ring that is too deep or too shallow against your engagement ring can look out of place and the court shape may not neccisarily even be the best cross section for you, I sell 15 different shapes and people often find that the shape that they originally thought they liked is not actually the best shape for their ring.
Most independants will work hard to get your business so let them know that you are concidering buying on the internet and tell them the best price per gram you have been offered, this is the price devided by the weight, in the case of the light ring approx £63.63 per gram.
If the jeweller will not at least match this then try another!
Different manufacturers use different terminology for their shapes so one companys medium may be somebody elses light so it is important to check the price per gram not just the price for a light or medium weight.
This way you will benefit from getting the best deal but also you will be able to make a proper educated choice.

    I hope this helps
  • I more or less agree with Diamond Geezer - if you possibly can, try your rings on before you buy. You need your wedding band to match the engagement ring as closely as possible, and most bricks-and-mortar jewellers will be prepared to negotiate if they know you are thinking about buying online.
  • I went to buy wedding rings the other day and the weight thing did confuse me!
DOes it mean it is of a better quality, I assume it does but dont know it, it feels heavy though does not look any different to another ring, I suspect most highsstreet chains dont discuss weight as they have standard weights?
    Not sure Hmmmmm
