Endometrial ablation- anyone had this?

I'm looking for peoples experience of this proceedure. I'm due to see my consultant on 7th April about being sterilised and wanted to see if i meet the criteria for this, even with having the implant my 'little friend' is getting steadily worse each month to the point that i actually thought one month that i might have been pregnant, not known and be having mc.

If you've had it done can i ask a few questions please,
How did you feel afterwards ie pain/uncomfortableness?
Did it help/work for you?
Are you happy with the result?
How long to recover? I know everyone's different but roughly speaking.

TIA

    Hi there

I had microwave endometrial ablation a couple of years ago, and I can quite safely say it was one of the best things I have ever done!

The actual procedure was done under GA as a day case, and I was feeling very alert and chirpy immediately I came round. Ate some supper, drank lots and was ready for discharge within a couple of hours. Very slight achey period type pain, but I stress, VERY slight. Minimal amount of bleeding which only lasted a couple of days, (only needed panty liners), and hey presto, no more periods, EVER!! I went back to work after a few days, but apart from being told to take that time off, I can honestly say I didn't feel I needed to.

I felt on top of the world, and still do.

HTH. I know everyone is different, and there are different techniques used, but I really hope you will feel as happy as me.

    Very best wishes

I had it done several years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done.

I went in day case, had the op at lunchtime, was home at teatime. I was a bit groggy and took a week off work on my gp's advice. I had very little pain, nothing worse than mild period pain which went with paracetamol.

Prior to the op I had periods which lasted about 10 days and were very heavy - I couldn't go out some days. After the op I had scanty periods which lasted 2-3 days, only needed a panty liner as protection, my SIL had it done and had no periods at all!

Prior to the op I was permanantly tired and anaemic but after it I felt brilliant!

I also have a friend who had the op and she is delighted as well.

    Good Luck!

I had an endometrial ablation 6 days ago under GA. I had quite a lot of pain immediately afterwards, paracetamol and codiene didn't help so I had oramorph which took the edge off it. I didn't react well to the anaesthetic, possibly because of another condition I have at the moment, so I did feel quite unwell for a few hours.

Anyway I stayed in hospital overnight and felt absolutely fine the following morning and came home. Had light bleeding for a few days which seems to have tailed off now. I'm hoping I won't have any more periods, it's hard to imagine after all the trouble I normally have with them!

  • 8 days ago for me and no medication needed at all, back to work after 4 days - bit tired to be honest but that has worn off now and virtually no bleeding to speak of. Hope this sorts me out - hope you go for it and have good results too. Good luck

I had mine 1 year ago - went in at 7am, theatre at 11am, some probs due to low blood pressure at 1pm but home by 5pm feeling absolutely fine and wondering if I imagined it all.
My periods went from horrific to light immediately (though still lasting 8 days) but now it's all over and done with in 3 days - fantastic. Best of all, no more anaemia so I have bags more energy,

    Good luck.

Just to update . Is now over two months since I've had mine . I found I had spotting/discharge for around a month after the operation then all stopped and I've had two very light periods. No more than spotting really. Also have, so far, stopped all the midcycle bleeding/discharge I was having . So a great result for me . Well worth it. No need to keep several changes of clothes at work now. No more anaemia!

I'd forgotten about having to have spare clothes everywhere. Also, being able to wear light colours is still a novelty. It's incredible how much we actually put up with before seeking help with heavy periods. I'd become a complete wreck by the time I had MEA and was so anaemic I barely had the energy to move. Now, I'm thrilled at my renewed energy levels but there are other benefits - such as having red lips again - my lips had gone so pale they were almost invisible against my pale skin; and my nails have stopped ripping-off as soon as they grow past the ends of my fingers!
