Can they do this?

Hi all, me again. Right here goes.
Had an ADDITIONS catalogue for a few years. Had a balance of £2600 (eeek! yes I know) Got behind with the payments last year when hubby's income dropped. Phoned them to ask if we could pay a little less and the only way they would do this is to roll it in to a new account which she said was like a loan but it would be transferred to KAYS instead. So I felt I had to accept this. This took the balance up to £4100. She did tell me though that I would recieve a significent rebate if settled early and this would all be outlined in the credit agreement she would be sending me. So last August they opened the account. we didn't recieve a statement til the very end of september which was accompanied by a message saying we had missd the first payment (?) I couldn't afford to double up at that time. I phoned them and they weren't very helpful. I paid October's and 2 in November to catch up. And the normal December payment. In january KAYS sold the debt (?????????????) to Lowells. Lowells have insisted on £113 a month which is more than I was paying to Kays. They insist that I owe £3900+ and there would be no rebate for early settlement as this is the debt full stop. I feel totally conned. why talk me into this new account costing me an extra £1500 to sell it on 5 months later. Oh and to cap it all, I found the credit agreement the other day. It seems I forgot to sign it and send it back. Does this make a difference?
Is there anything I can do about this legally or are they within their rights?

Thanks guys!

Oh and I should add that I have paid Lowells a february payment and they will be taking another tomorrow. I didn't dare not pay at this point. Have I done the right thing?

right then, ask lowell for a cca (they propably wont have one since you havent sent it back signed)
use the temptlates from this site with the £1 fee in a postal order do not sign the request
if you want to pay it pay what you can afford not what they want
    standing orders no direct debit

thanks mcjordi, will do that. Guy on phone was rather smug sounding when I phoned about the account. If I can dispute this I will. Why should I lose £1500 for an account that was only open for 5 months?

Will get on to that now. Thanks again!
