Self build mortgages--where to start?

Has anyone got any experience of dealing with a broker with expertise in self build mortgages? I am becoming frustrated in dealing with a high street bank, who have changed their lending policy since purchasing the plot!
Any recommendations? I'm looking for someone who knows the field, and can take the strain with the processes and forms!

If it was me I would buy Grand Designs magazine as a starting point, they sell it in WHSmiths, you definitely need either a specialised company or broker, good luck!
