Trying not to get carried away....

Options
but im so excited YAY.... hubby has finally agreed to a 2nd freezer and it arrives on friday... :T :T

I've been complaining for months that that real thing that stops us being truely old style is a lack of freezer space, i want to try and fill it quickly so it uses less power but im trying to keep "food bills" in check and don't really want to "over spend" just because im trying to fill the freezer haha.

I have all these idea's of things i can NOW make in bulk i feel like my head is about it explode.

So if you got a new freezer how would you fill it?

Till you can fill it with food, either pack it with newspaper, or fill up tubs with water and take them out as you fill the freezer.

Oh I am jealous, I wish we could have one too.

Mince based dishes such as bolognese sauce, chilli, shepherds pie freeze well, also home made cakes and puddings. In the meantime, you could fill up the freezer with loaves of bread. There are lots of other ideas on here, I'm sure someone will be able to do you some links, afraid I'm not clever enough.

    I have two freezers. :D
It won't take long to fill them both and still need more room.

As this is a second freezer, I don't understand how you can lack freezer space  I'd save the money and the running costs and use what I already have in :D

    Hi leiela,

These threads should help give you some ideas:

    Cooking for the Freezer..

Meal building blocks for the freezer

Nutritionally good meals for the Freezer?

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.

I am excited for you! I am getting an electrician to put power out to our shed. I am desperate to get a second freezer. My 3 drawer freezer is not big enough for our requirements.

I got a second freezer a few months ago and miraculously it was filled up in no time! As well as what everyone else has said, I'd recommend frozen veg: green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, aubergines are all cheaper than buying fresh.

Oh dear, you sound very much like a friend of mine. a crispy bat on the windowsill, a dried mouse on the christmas tree in a fairy outfit, and various vegetables in different states of decay around & about. I did once save a gerbil skin (The other gerbil had eaten the rest) for my children's Sylvanian Family house, they had it as a rug stretched out in front of the little range stove, very cosy.

But if she's only got a fridge/freezer (rather than a chest freezer already) then those with drawers etc are more trouble than they are worth and in reality hold very little.
I have a small chest freezer in my garage but could do with another one. Mine gets filled quite quickly when I bulk buy my meat etc so if I come accross any reduced bargains (mostly bread) then I've got no where to store it and have to give it to my mum to stash in hers :D
