Canadian Lobsters for a Fiver !

Apparently on Monday (30th) Lidl will be selling whole lobsters at £5 as part of a Gourmet promotion. Usual cost around £30 in a restaurant, £15 at a fishmonger. Apparently they did something similar at Xmas and they sold out quickly - probably to local restaurants !!

I will be going for it ! Having never cooked fresh lobster, if it all goes horribly wrong I am sure Daisy the Rescue Dog will eat it - can you give dogs shellfish ? she likes sardines ! :p

I have found when we tried these 1 xmas to be of poor quality, when we have had fresh lobster in Cornwall the meat was very meaty, the Lidals lobster we tried was all mush, not very nice at all, although my cat did have an expensive dinner that evening, However it is a question of personal taste in the end.:D

I had the same experience with the ones from Tesco when they had them on offer a while back. I've since learnt that lobster gourmets avoid frozen ones as it's the freezing process which changes the texture.

Frozen lobsters aren't great for eating as plain lobster with butter.

However, you can use it in a dish.

we tried frozen lobster on sale in makro. the packaging was really big but after opening it realised the size of the lobster was really small! the taste was really disappointing. nothing like having fresh lobster from ur local fishmonger.

I ended up making fishcakes with the lidl lobster we got at Xmas.
I found instructions online to tell me how to get the meat out - you have to picture the scene- laptop on counter, me trying to read the instructions whilst staying far enough away to prevent the laptop being covered in lobster shell...

I can recommend the good grips corn on the cob skewer for getting the meat out though!
