First time buyer mortgage

Hi,
My wife and I are looking to buy our first home. We have a deposit of £17K could push to 20K and are looking at 2 properties one is up at £115K and the other is £119K obviously in this climate we will not be paying those prices :D So I reckon a mortgage of around £93K will be a realisitc punt. The mortgage will be in joint names but only I will be paying it. What are the best deals out there at the moment? I have looked at moneysupermarket and I will be honest it confuzzles me (I am an IT geek not a financial whizz lol) Any help is really appreciated.
Cheers

  • Go to a good whole of market broker - London & Country have quite a good reputation, they're always in the press.

I find it hard to cope with so many posters being honest as it confuzzles me.

Speak to a whole market mortgage advisor.
Ask him/her which lenders he/she never recommends if you are not paying a fee.
    Try them first.
If all else fails go back to the "Whole Market" advisor as they know what they are talking about ( which of course is part of the market if they are doing it for free)

It will boil down to what kind of deal you i.e. fixed, variable etc and how long you want that deal for i.e. 2,3 5 years etc.

You then need to decide on what features you would like from the mortgage i.e. underpayments, overpayments, offset etc

Then once you have filtered down these kind of things, amongst others, you can then start to look at which deals are the best for you in your situation

As the others above have stated, a whoel of market mortgage adviser would be a good source of help for you
