your 'allowances' are benefits. hence you are on benefits.
if your complaining about discrimination because of this, then why not face that, give up your allowances and get a job? that is your right.

no one gives an unsecured loan to an unemployed person. imagine the problems our economy would be in if the banks were THAT stupid!

    no offence!

and in response to your above repost, what is a normal quality of life?
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000

Thats a question that no one can realy answer as everyones opinion about life quality is different, the only person that can judge the quality of life is the person them selves.

I'm not saying that the banks are discriminating against the disabled, i was asking, is it possible, as for the comments about to much benefit, if you can't work because of a disability the only option open to you is benefit, if someone is disabled and can't work does that mean they have to live a lesser quality of life because they are disabled and on benefit?, also, what amount of benefit is too much benefit?

Define quality of life... Do I think people on benefits should live in abject squalor with not a penny more to their name than they need to simply stay alive? HELL NO. I think people should be able to achieve a reasonable standard (ah another one of those undefined terms!) of living.

As for things like credit/loans/whatever from banks and the like. Some people seem to think this is something they have a right to, and that I do disagree with. Banks shouldn't have to give credit to people they think are a poor business risk based on a simple examination of their income and outgoings.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything
  • I think the title of the thread is a little misleading, it should be a question and the answer would be no, they are not discriminating against you. Nobody has a god given right to get credit, i think some people need to understand that banks are business's and like any other business are out to make a profit, that profit is obviously reduced if they give credit to high risk clients that default on loans and the bank cannot recoup their monies.

Benefit amounts change, eligibility changes, depending on what government is in, they are not a stable source of income like a salaried job.

Well seeing as (some of) those of us who work live in pretty much the above situation, I would love us all to be equal in society!

i totally agree with you there, however i also think that some smell the garden and smell roses and others smell manure. Sometimes in life we have more to be thankful for than we think. As for the original question, i think it's been answered quite thoroughly. The economic climate is such that banks are loathe to give out loans.
