Job change and mortgage

Hello,

I wonder whether someone can help. Me and my husband are planning to apply for a joint mortgage. The current job I have is horrible and I hate it everyday. What I would like to do is: after our mortgage is approved and after we have completed the contract and moved to our new house I want to resign my job and take some time off and then look for new work mid summer. For example: We moved to new home 16th april and I want to quit job 18th april. We can afford our mortgage with single salary. I'm just staying in this job until we get our mortgage. We can get mortage in single salary but we want to be extra safe and apply for joint mortgage.

My question is: Will I have to let my mortgage company know that I have resigned job after the mortgage was approved and we moved to new house?

Please let me know.

If you can afford the payments then carry on as normal, if you know you are going to be short when you resign then precede with caution.

I would just offer a word of caution in terms of how long it takes to get a new job - most people are finding it is taking longer than they expect. So providing you can pay the mortgage comfortably on one salary for a reasonable period of time (and you believe that salary is safe and not likely to be made redundant!) then fine. Otherwise I would be tempted to be more cautious and not resign until you have a new position.

  • However much you hate the job, in the current climate I think you should try to find another before leaving the one you hate.
