who pays more?

Hi,
My Hubby pays the rent/mortgage. I pay for the childcare and we put an amount into a bill account which covers all the DD SO for the month to run the home. It works really well. If you can build in an overpay into the bill account it can cover additional costs like the house insurance so you can pay it annually. If you can build in a bigger overpay it also covers things like car tax and insurance, its amazing how much you can save just by planning ahead.
It's a case, in our experience, of splitting things fairly, whilst not getting too complicated. Keep it simple and you can't go wrong. Im sure you can work out something that will suit you both.
Regards

some replies, excellent!..(been on hols, just checking replies today),
i have read all and taken on board what advice has been given, lots to think about. The ratio isnt 3:1, i earn 10,000 more,so i should pay more on the monthly mortgage right?. Perhaps dividing the bills would be a better way, i pay mortgage, while she pays mostly other stuff. keep it simple, no arguing. thanked you people.0 -
Oh, I must be odd, when my now wife moved into my house I never thought to work out how much it was worth and what I should insist she paid for. I pay all the bills and mortgage she pays for our childs education and improvements to the house.
I can't even begin to work out who might have paid more over the 20 years we've been together.
In the olden days when I got married in a registry office I think I said to my wife "all my worldly goods with thee I share". We have been sharing ever since................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
PS sorry to break the bad news but you wont get the a&l 3.99% as its on LTV of less than 60% now and you only have 15% deposit.
Like the idea of a 5 year fix !!0 -
I earn almost double what DH earns. Neither of us pays something. Our wages go into the bank on payday and we give the kids their pocket money and take ours. The rest is the pot. It's all budgeted for and we get an equal share. He is expected to do most of the diy and I'm expected to do the kids taxiing. If he wasn't prepared to pull his weight with looking after the kids then I couldn't earn as much. That would affect all of us though.
