New credit card/loan - should I apply?

Hi All
I posted a while ago saying I'd tried to get additional credit from my bank at new year and they'd turned me down. Since this date I've been working hard to try and improve my financial situation. I got my credit report, had myself disassociated from my ex who had bad credit, managed to get an old credit account marked as settled (balance was showing as £6,400 of available credit), I've settled another agreement (£2,500 for sofa).
I now have an issue where I only have my mortgage, and one credit card - although it does have £10,000 on it! Its on at a high rate and I really really want to move it. But I am worried if I apply for a new card or loan to move it so soon I'll be rejected again and this will ruin my credit rating. Do you think I should wait longer? I want to start paying this debt off asap and hence get it in a better place - right now its going nowhere - but maybe I should wait until say 6 months from my last credit application?
Any advise appreciated.

We're three months on from New Year now.
Time for another attempt I'd say. The boys on the credit card board will be best placed to suggest who to try if you give them some details.0
