hi,
my brother has got into a financial mess due to losing his job, he has c/c debts of 10k, he is going to see the citizens advice people in a weeks time but he is getting himself all worked up about his name in the paper if he goes b/r.
i seem to remember reading somewhere that the government were stopping doing this in 2009, have i got this right?
ive told him not to worry about the papers but he is making himself ill with worry.
dennis.

There was talk of it stopping but no idea if it was finalised or when it would be happening, hopefully someone in the know will answer that

Personally I never saw my name in the paper.. wouldn't know where to find it.. Ask your friend if it's something he's ever paid much attention to or looked at in the past before it's become a possibility for him?
Not many people look at these notices and are the ones that do really worth worrying about?
just my opinion :hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
also ask your brother if he would be willing to pay £10,000 so that his name *didn't* appear in the paper for a day with something he would consider derogatory next to it - if he wouldn't, then he shouldn't worry about it.
Most people don't read it anyway as Waspeze says, and he may not even appear in there anyway if the OR forgets (it happens).
Cheers

It's a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with sorting all the financial stuff out. I didn't see my notice - my sister in law did, but she knew we were going br and was looking for it.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

I never saw my name in the paper and I have scanned it week by week - depending where you live it may not be in your local paper. Where I am the town paper only shows businesses going into liquidation and it is the county paper ie lincs echo/post or what ever it is that shows the personal br's and no one round here really buys that :O)
Also in todays climate it is really nothing to be ashamed of at all so just tell him to get a tough chin and take any blows that come (which really honestly should be none) and any friends that are not supportive or understanding are really not friends at all

You apply to the court notto have name printed in newspaper but need a good reason so i am told0

My name was in the paper, but I couldn't care less. The only people who look are those like me who were or have gone BR. It is soon forgotten anyway.
Tell him this is the least of his problems, I mean it could be worse if he was in for something rather more serious Like bank robbing or rape or murder. Most of these announcements are on a page which contains important newsworthy items such as road closures, planning committee decisions, speed limit changes, road work proposals and other such, major headline issues.
Most of this headline grabbing news is totally ignored by everyone bar the most dedicated anorak .;)Better to be poor than a slave to wealth

I told my OR that i had borrowed from a loan shark and if they were to see my name in the paper then i would be in serious danger , Told them i had no intentions of paying them and was told that was ok and if i had any problems to report it to the police . I hadn't borrowd from a shark and my name never appeared in the paper . Always worth a go ?0
