Things to sell at fetes, boot sales & events?

Hi All,

Having spent 2 years doing significant fundraising with my husband for various causes, we have built up a nice network of events etc that this year we find we are being invited to. Now we are not doing fundraising this year (baby on way) but it lead us to thinking that perhaps there is a way we can make a little extra income by selling *SOMETHING* at these events. This is all totally above board and in no way would we say we were doing it for charity etc. Where I live (Cornwall) there are loads of 'big' events which invite both charity and private sellers along.

Anyway, not being the most imaginative of people we are struggling for ideas on what sort of thing we could do. Ideas so far are:

Some kind of food service such as cakes, strawberries and cream (but this leads to questions about insurance, food hygiene, storage etc that could be a nightmare)

Making bath products using pre-certified materials from suppliers (although the end product would have to be certified and this could be costly and lengthy)

Does anyone have any good ideas that they'd be willing to share, please? It seems to me that the obvious way to go to avoid legal trouble is to buy something wholesale and sell on but I just don't know what....

Any ideas would be gratefully received!

MWA

take a look at the special occasions board, they are very crafty (literally). Ideas range from home made greeting cards to nappy cakes to knitting/sewing/etc. Some MSEr's on there also sell via table top sales/carboot/fetes.

Be warned though you may become addicted, I wanted to make everything I saw.

With the policies you mentioned, this came up a couple of weeks ago, from what I can remember as long as you state the ingredients/products used and with selling food, you do not need a certificate if just selling at fetes, etc (someone mentioned a market kitchen rule which is what you'll be classed as)

Hopefully someone will be along in a mo to clarify and make more sense.

Can anyone find the post I'm on about? - Had a quick look but no luck
  • HI,

Have a look at the Phoenix Trading and Usborne Books threads as both products are often sold at fêtes and so on, and if you are looking to make extra money there are other ways to sell too - coffee mornings, evening parties, schools, catalogue drops, etc, etc...so you would not be limited to 'just' fêtes.

I agree with Liveandlearn. I've done Usborne for 2 and half years and mainly choose to sell at fetes and fairs. I also have a website and sell directly to schools.

  • how about doing a short course in manicures, they do one day courses in most areas for about £45, and then you could do a manicure stall, offering file and finish at £5 it would probley take 10 mins each just file then polish

im thinking of doing this too:j
