Hi everyone,
My DS2 is 12 and has recently started becoming extremely hungry (he eats tonnes already, so I have been dreading this day) after school. He is not a huge fan of fruit and veg:rolleyes: , and has an very sweet tooth which I try to discourage at every opportunity:D .
So instead of baking him scones and pancakes and more sweet things I thought I might use the peanut butter mountain [strike]we[/strike] I have accumulated and make some sort of tasty filling savoury thing to welcome him home with.
I thought maybe something scone/bread like. I have found loads of recipes for sweet cookies and the like but I haven't found anything savoury yet.
Would a combo of cheese and peanut butter go well? I thought about maybe adding some to cheese scones, has anyone tried this??
I have a pretty well stocked baking cupboard so any ideas are welcome.
TIA,
MrsB.
Ps Pink and PenPen,
I have looked for a thread on peanut butter, but couldn't find one so apologies if I missed it.

What about Peanut Butter Fruit & Fibre Muffins, they are a bit healthier but should also please his sweet tooth?

Or Savoury Biscuits

Or Peanut Butter Flapjacks, again sweet but a bit healthier

You could also make some pancakes without sugar, spread them with peanut butter & roll them up, that would be quick & easy.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I used to make cheese and bacon scones, I think they'd go well with peanut butter. Or how about little bread cakes with peanut butter mixed in the dough?

My kids love peanut butter spread on celery.Be the change you want to see0

Why not just spread it on bread?
My kids often have bread and butter plus jam/honey (not PB as dd is allergic) as an after school snack. It always goes down well.0 -
First thanks for all your ideas.
Thriftlady, my reason for not just giving him a peanut butter sandwich is because he eats more than enough bread already. (2 sandwiches at morning break and 2 more for lunch, and sometimes has toast for breakfast)
Anguk, thanks for those recipes, I could only find sweet ones and those savoury biscuits look good, I'll give them a go!
MadameCholet, sorry no evil celery near me please;) , the smell makes me _pale_ but I know he [STRIKE]does[/STRIKE] used to like it so might use this as a last resort veggie compromise.
Pol, I might just give the scones a go too, I did hope it might go as a taste combination.
I will let you know how these turn out.
Thanks again,
MrsB.

peanut butter is basically peanuts and palm oil whizzed up, you could always make some yourself without the additives and a better quality vegetable oil if you wanted to watch his salt/fat intake0

my OH loves the combination of peanut butter and marmite.. i am sure peanut butter and cheese would go well.. or maybe you could make some samosas with a satay style filling, chicken and veggies and stuff...
ive had savoury pretzels filled with peanut butter.. they are yummy...0
