Mannatech and Network Marketing

Hi all,
I don't know if any of you have heard of Mannatech. If you have, can I first say that I don't use their products and I am not in their scheme- just so that you know that I am not biased. Mannatech is up there with Microsoft has made billions since it's launch. I was wandering if anyone had any comments on Network marketing and Mannatech.
Mannatech is a huge company based in the US who basically produce a radically new range of health products. One of their products is kind of a supplement and gives you complex sugars that we can't get by our normal diet. They also have Phytovitimin supplements. I have heard some amazing stories of people's health really getting better, asthma more-or-less completely cured and even cancer.
My BIG issue and stumbling block is their whole method of selling the products. They use network marketing. One of their products costs £30 on average and that will only last you one month. That means to take full advantage you are looking for about £60-120 per month if you were going to use a good range of their products.
Of course what they want you to do is to become an associate and sell to your friends. You get a percentage and so does the person who introduced you and so on. People are making £1000s a month and perhaps more just by selling products to a few people because they have many 'sellers' below them. I went to one of their meetings and I felt that I was in a cult- with testomonies and 'get rich quick' stories. The whole networking marketing scheme of course makes sense to them as it is a huge money spinner with hardly any overheads etc. It has worked amazingly well in the US. But over hear I am not so sure. It looks very much to me like a pyramid scheme. But when I was at the meeting they disputed this- "No one is a loser" they said. That may be so- but if you have to sell the products to subsidise your 'habit' then I think this is a huge dissadvantange.
What do people think? Why can't I buy these products without getting into their scheme? Any thoughts on network marketing?

Hi .. I was surprised to see no replies over the last 3 years!
I've looked at this company because I was interested in their products.
They are a very aggressively American company who have 'discovered' 8 glyconutrients (sugars) in foods, isolated them and then manufactured them into capsule / powder form which they then patented, and successfully enforced that patent against a UK company

last year.
I think the product looks quite interesting, but because it's MLM, a lot of the money it costs to buy the product goes to both the distributors and the parent company, making it very expensive.
You could, of course, save a bucket, by eating the foods that contain these substances, which is how people have been getting them for a very long time!
Take a look at this site for food sources:
