I started Betterware this week, After needing some extra cash.
I looked on here before applying for betterware for all the pro's and con's just to cover myself before i sign up to anything!
Well the interview was great, i have been started off with a new worker so it was a learning curb for us both, whilst doing my first rounds, i asked my " area manager" (No sure what they are called!)
Does this mean i become self-employed, and if so how do i fill the forms in
(As the form ask somethings like)
Business name,
Paye number,
ect..
And she said that i dont declare it as i'm only working cash-in-hand?
So i'm not sure of my next move? I called inland rev this morning and the advisor i talked to did not know if i became S/E Through the nature of the work? So i'm at a loose end?
Can someone please give me some information a.s.a.p, as i have another appointment with my "area manager" this afternoon.
And i would really liked this cleared up!

I know the tax office are currently looking into schemes such as betterware and kleeneze as they reckon there is a lot of revenue there they can claim so i would declare everything.Every week or month you get paid you would need to invoice who pays you.Simply type their details, your details, the work you have done and the total figure they are due to pay you and print out 2 copies.0

Thanks for the info:-)
The only problem with that is at first i was given 80 properties to run, That now as someone has left has turned into over 500 if i want them.
(Which needing the cash i will have to do!)
This is what has confused me, as i have been SE before but this is very different from last time.
I have to have a business name and PayE number:-?
If i was to invoice say 300 house's (sales) and keep a catalogue of every penny, some weeks i will be up from down?
And IR have told me in the past that if i make under £150.00 pcm then i dont need to pay tax and NI?
Now i'm working for commision so maybe my working out's are wrong but betterware work it out this way:
300 Properties:-
sales:- £1 per person per house
my cut:- 20%
300 property - £300 in cash - £60 for me?
God, so many probs lol!Future goals:

You need ask betterware about declaring income and how their current agents work it.I am sure you sign a disclaimer when you start saying you are self-employed and excluding them from any wrong doing if the agent is not declaring an income.0

You are self employed as a sole trader, your area manager is wrong. I would clarify what they are telling you with their head office.
Regardless of whether you earn above or below the threshold you still need to register.
You can register your business under your own name.
It doesn't matter how many catalogues you drop just keep a note of what you sell, what money you take and what you spend.0 -

Thank you, i called Betterware today at 2 and they have told me that i will have to register as S/E after my training day which will be a week today.
I called IR as well today and twice now i have been told that they dont know if i do become S/E worker due to the nature of the work?
So i'm going to leave it now until monday morning and try again.
Does anyone know if the inland rev still send out self-employment packs or is this all done online now?
Thanks for everyone's help so far!! :beer:Future goals:

I would leave it until a few days after the training day.On your training day ask for an example how the agents declare their earnings i.e. invoices.Better still ring betterware or email them and ask.0

I would imagine declaring yourself for Tax for Betterware would be along the same lines as for Avon- I do Avon, and rang this week, told them I worked full-time and had started doing Avon. She just took my National Insurance number, name, address, tele number etc, and it was done! Am also being sent details of free half-day courses run at the local tax office where they show you how to keep records, and what costs you can put down. I found the number on the government website, there is one just for self-employment.hthAvon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0

Thanks for the info, asked my AM yesterday and she said that she will find out about the form, but has never heard of anyone working for betterware becoming S/E and she her-self does not call Inalnd rev, About her work as she does not earn enough to pay any tax and NI?
I tried to talk to her about what info i got from here and she said that i just should call, but she is sure she is right, as she has employed 25 new people for betterware and none of those needed to declare this!
So to cover myself on monday morning, I'm going to call Ir, And tell them the work im doing and the hours, Let them know that i get paid on a commission based pay, and ask if they can send me any forms out for futher info.
Has anyone else here used these types of jobs / partyplanning as a full time job opp?
As i need to spend more time at home at the moment, and still work?
So anything to earn a little extra, avon, virgin vie, ect..Future goals:

It doesn't matter if you don't earn enough to pay tax, it all still has to be declared. Even if you only earn £1 a year, it has to be declared! It's quite worrying that the area manager is advising people to commit tax fraud.
You need to ring the self employed helpline. You'll find the number on www.hmrc.gov.uk along with lots of other useful information about becoming self employed.
You will need to keep records and complete a tax return at the end of the year, even if you don't earn enough to pay tax.
You'll also either have to pay Class 2 NI contributions or apply for a small earnings exemption certificate. If you don't have any other jobs where you are paying NI, it might be worth paying it as you may be entitled to benefits such as maternity allowance and incapacity benefit should you need them in the future.
If you don't register and you get caught, you could be fined. Here I go again on my own....0 -

The attitude your area manager shows here is why the taxman is currently looking at betterware and other similiar schemes. These kind of schemes showed a big increase with people claiming benefits and doing them. That is why certain departments began to look more closely at them.Betterware cover themselves with the disclaimer form all agents sign declaring they are self-employed.I wish you well in your new venture and it is always best to do things by the book. The tax office will be chasing lost revenue more than ever in the next tax year.0
