paying off mortgage or credit cards

We have a buy to let property that was purchased with money from our father from the sale of his house, this was a gift from him, we are now to sell the buy to let property and are not sure whether to pay off our numerous credit cards or pay of our mortgage on our main residence, any thoughts?

As a rule of thumb you settle the debt with the highest interest rate.

Isn't there some sort of rule of thumb for paying off debts?

Highest interest rate debts first. That'll be the credit cards.
