Uses for old dustbins

Our council has finally upped its kerbside recycling. ( Too many different bags/ boxes, weeks for collecting different things, overall too complicated to gain cooperation, but that is another topic!). We have 2 plastic bins, now, that will be redundant from 1 april. Our council aren't doing anything to collect or advise on re-use ( they are an exceptionally short sighted authority). When my husband contacted them about collection/recycling all they could say was take them to the tip! Anyway - I have thought of the usual uses, water butt (would they be strong enough) and growing potatoes/ strawberries ( although weirdly I feel a bit ugggh). Any other ideas?

Cut the bottom off and turn it into a compost bin.
I do use an old one as a water butt and it's never leaked.0 -
Are we talking about wheeliebins? I've used one of those as a water butt. It was fine. I replaced it with a proper water butt for aesthetic reasons and the new water butt leaks! I was better off with the wheelie bin!0

Keep them ! You will probably need them in a couple of years when the Councils adopt "pay as you throw". You will have to buy special bin liners from them to put your rubbish in - you will need a bin for the liner.0
