  • Well I've finally got around to updating my spreadsheets/sig etc. I've spent more than I should have and April will be another high spend month. After April, I will then have four low spend months in a row (I've excluded holiday from my 4 grand as it could impact on other people's enjoyment). I probably won't be too far off half of the yearly spending allowance by the end of April. However, nearly all of the big ticket items for the year will be paid and I have a large stockpile of long shelflife food. Even Christmas is cheap for me. I was ostracised by most of the family years ago because I left their cult. They don't do Christmas. Christmas never costs me more than £150 and I can usually do it at rather less than a ton.
I've think I've done quite well so far really because my vehicle maintenance costs have been exceptionally high in recent weeks and even though I lost 3 - 4 weeks of work in the freeze-ups, I've still managed to chip away at my debts. I can't deny though that my self discipline has been wayward at times so I could have done even better. I take the view that over these past three months, I've gone 95% of the way to turning around lifelong bad habits.
For next year, due to excluding holiday (and with better discipline by then), I intend to reduce from the 4 grand target of this year. I reckon it's doable - especially as I see people on here with children doing 4 grand plus child allowance. We all know that child allowance is only a partial contribution to child costs so maybe I will try for £3,500 next year.

SM, hope all goes well with the horse

Glad to hear people are on the mend

Fay, sorry that the lodger has let you down, i can relate to that as we can often find out at the last minute that a student is no longer coming. hope you can get by financially.

Very impressive list Fay, mine will not be so impressive as i have been doing a huge amount of work in the garden again. Neighbour commented on how much light he was getting in his house now too and how much better it was looking.

Paul, nice to read your update re your £4k challenge!

    Hello all!!

    It's Pay Day :j :j :j

and altho that has brightened up my day, pay and staff services have messed everything up, as i have applied for a new bank account (with cashback :D ) and i requested that my salary goes into my new account as of next month! but no, it went into it today and all my direct debits go out my old account on the 1st, so that means i have to try and transfer money about, but i hope that the money transfers before the direct debits go out or else i may then be charged for going over my overdraft!! agggghhh:mad:

have a question!?!? does anyone know if it is cheaper to put central heating on to heat house, or the gas fire to heat one room???

hope everyone is having a good day xxx

Dizzydebs, i would have thought it would be cheaper to heat one room. I wish i could do the same thing, Its rather cold here and have had to put the heating on but i'm the only person here and its seems silly to be heatina whole house.

I have heard from people on another thread that it can be cheaper to leave your central heating on low than to keep putting it on and off again. Decisions decisions!!

I live on me own too and to be honest altho its a terrace, the back room to the kitchen and bathroom is always freezing to the point where my parents left me an electric heater for winter cos it is that cold!!! so being inbetween two other houses isnt helping me much, but last night i put my fire on for a short time and was wondering if it would be cheaper to heat that room only and take a hot water bottle to bed or put the heating on low??

    as u said decisions decisions!!!

Trust me angelflower my garden was a jungle before i got to work on it.
Don't know how to post pics on here, however here is a link to my blog which shows a pic after i had already spent quite a bit of time in the garden and the second picture is progress to date.
