Budget Spreadsheet won't open

I need some help. My budget spreadsheet is corrupt and open office needs java to repair it. I have the latest jre installed, but it still won't do it. Is it rescuable? It won't open my back up copy either. My main pc has a copy, but that hasn't been backed up for over a week, and that pc is running in a state of unwellness right now, so I can't get to that either.
It's an open office spreadsheet. I'm on a dell mini inspiron, running windows xp home, with sp3. I'm pretty sure everything's up to date and i'm not sure why it's done this.
