Lowell Financial Ltd

Hi all,

I am in the process of making F&F offers to all of my creditor. The letters have been sent and Lowell are the first to get back to me. It looks like they are going to accept my offer but want to email through the confirmation. They also want payment before the end of the month which would mean my mum paying on my behalf via her debit card. Does this all sound ok? I'm worried that email confimation will not be valid if they try to chase the money at a later date. Also is it advisable to pay by card or is cheque better?

If anyone has had dealing with Lowell I would appreciate your stories!

Thank you onetwoonetwo x

  • Speaking from experience, ask for their acceptance in writing. Lowell are very sneaky, they took £100 out of my partners bank account when he only said £10. They will do anything to get their money.

Get it in writing by letter.

And pay by cheque. Don't pay by debit card. You don't have to tell them that you are paying by cheque up front, just send it once you have the letter.

If they are serious about the settlement, then a few days isn't going to matter. Tell them that you dont have a computer and so you need it in a letter and that once you have it, you'll send them payment.

Do not pay anything over the phone by debit card - that's what they want! Get the offer in writing first, they will kick up about it and say they "don't do letters as they are a telephone company" but they've written to me enough as they don't have my phone number. Hold out, and get the offer in writing - do not let them bully you into paying over the phone as they can and probably will, sell the remainder of the debt on and chase you in the future for the remainder.

There is a good template letter on the National Debtline website that you can use to send to them offering a F&F. Tell them that you have been lent this money for the purpose of paying your debts and that the money will be withdrawn after xx of days and if they don't accept, you'll offer the money to another creditor. They'll bite your arm off for it....

I made agreements with many agencys about a year or so ago and they were one of them, as posters have said make sure you get a agreement letter 1st then pay them.

They were fine with me, but one of the debts was passed to another agency six months later and I had to send them the proof of payment and letter that the debt was paid, if I had not then I would have been stuck!

How much is the debt for?

Bear in mind when making F&F's to DCA's that they buy the debts for peanuts (pennies in the £) so even an offer of 30%, they could be making a tidy profit!

Lowell are one of my creditors and I'm in the process of making a f&f and there is a lot of to'ing and fro'ing involved but I am not giving up!

  • might even be worth asking your (or mum's) bank to to a counter cheque, so tlowell cannot trace / raid your a/c details..

  • We actually have two separate debts with Lowell. The first is for £155 of which we have offered to pay £60 and the second is for £1566 of which we are offering £612. They are keen to push it through before the end of the month in order to hit monthly targets, or at least that was the line they used when on the phone... We will definitely go back to them now and say we want it in writing. Thanks everyone for your v.helpful posts.

    Hi

    Please just STOP.

if this is lowlife, either the debt is statute barred or they do not have the legal docmentation to enforce it. Either way you do not need to pay.

The reason for panicking you into paying quickly is because that way you do not find out before you cough up.

    What are these debts for?

How long since you paid anything else towards them?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • I also got a letter from lowels and they keep writting offering me lower rate to pay for my husbands credit card which they also CAN NOT supply a CCA.
So rather than lose the money they keep offering me to settle with lower payments. BUt I now know that if the debt was Enforcable they would have had court papers sent by now.

Ras will sort you out here with some brilliant advice
  • Hi,
Well, big debt is student overdraft and small one is mobile phone bill. We've been making token £1.00 payments every month for the last year and in the last few weeks my mum has offered to pay off all our creditors if we can organise reduced F&F settlements. Can you explain in a bit more detail your remark about the possibility that the 'debt is statute barred or they do not have the legal docmentation to enforce it'? This is all going over my head a bit and don't want to make any wrong moves with this company! Thanks.
