I am after a loan for a car

Hi,

My car has suddenly become very poorly, so I am looking for a loan for a nearly new one, and to pay off the difference between the amount o/s on my current loan with Welcome (boo hiss) and the value of the car for part ex - that's assuming some garage will take it off my hands.

Anyway, I have a couple of problems:

- Firstly, up until about 2 1/2 years ago my hubby and I had a fair bit of debt, which we paid off with the sale of our house in Jan 07. We have since lived a 'debt free' existance with the exception of a loan and credit card which are in a bid to improve our credit rating more quickly and have both been taken out in the last year - all payments have been made up to date and on time.

- Secondly, the rented address we lived at for the first 18 months after the sale of the house was not registered on the royal mail database and although we have council tax details to prove that we were there and have sent them to the credit ref agencies - when prospective lenders credit check us, it looks like we didn't exist for that 18 months as their automated systems won't recognise our old address. If they search previous addresses, then they just show the bad time that we had back then, and they won't touch us with a barge pole. Tesco have suggested I contact Royal Mail, but I have done this and they cant register the address without the landlords say so, and info from him - he won't provide this for reasons known only to himself).

So the question remains, does anyone know of any sympathetic lenders (do they even exist) who don't just run everything through a computer, and actually listen to what you are telling them?

Can anyone shed any light on what I can do to get a loan anytme soon?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Have you tried your own bank? Your credit file is linked to you, not to your address by the way.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:
  • No I haven't tried the bank - I guess it's worth a shot. Don't they do a credit check on you as well though?

I know that the credit file is attached to you rather than your address, but I still have this huge gap in my credit file - because lenders can't enter my previous address (as it doesn't exist)!

Will give the bank a call though - fingers crossed!
