Cheaper Specs for everyone!

Hi All,

I just wanted to pass this on, as I was recently recommended to try it by a friend.

I am pretty short sighted, and wear specs all the time. Recently I got a notice from my optician (Boots) to go for an eye test, and they told me I needed new ones. I asked about keeping the same frames and having them re-glazed (trying to save cash) but with the thinner lenses I need it was going to be £125 for the lenses and £30 for a re-glaze fee!! I politely said no and left.

My friend had told me about a local dispensing opticians (Spex Maniax in case anyone lives near Halesowen in the West Mids, but they are all over the place). Basically, they can't do eye tests but if you take your prescription there they can sell you a pair of specs much cheaper. In the end I decided on pretty much the most expensive frames in the shop (they're purple and quite cool I think, and were extortionately priced at £67!) and even with my thinner lenses, the specs only came to £104!!!

The cheapest pair they sell, which are fine if all you want to do is see, are £29. I don't think Boots could match that!

Anyway, the point of my post is to let everyone that they should go to dispensing opticians if they want cheap specs. I for one intend to start buying them like shoes now that I know how cheaply I can get them! (Not very money saving I know but fun all the same)

sounds good will look out for a dispensing opticians near me. I don't know if they are in rural areas too, if anyone does know, please say thanks!

My last pair cost me £80 from bargainspecs on the internet last year, they are nice looking frames (sort of slim ovals), and I had anti shine and anti-scratch coating, and that technology where they go dark like sunglasses, when you go out in the sun.

I was pleased with that, but found that once I received them I had to go to a local opticians and ask them to adjust my glasses to fit on my face properly. he asked me where I got them from, he seemed to frown on the fact I bought them from the internet! But he did not charge me for adjusting my glasses so I was happy.
I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...
