help needed selling car

Due to splitting with my partner I can no longer afford the £280 p/m finance on my car I got a less than a year ago. I owe about £9000 and need advice on the best way to sell it or buy it outright

Hi Bagpuss, hope you don't mind me adding my query to your post.

I also could do with some advice on this subject. I have been trying to sell my car back to showrooms, but they just want to pressure you into buying another car. The first one I spoke to wanted to know how much finance I owe, which to me says, they want to offer you that amount or only just over regardless of how much the car is worth. As far as I am concerned, the car is worth what it is worth.

Example. I owe £2700 on a car which cost £6000 only 10 months ago as I got £3000 trade in.
I reckon I should be able to get £4000 for it. I have searched on car sales websites for the same car of same age and they are still selling at £7000-ish.

Any advise would be extremely appreciated.

You'll never get a decent price from a dealer - they aren't selling much right now, so have no interest in buying in yet more expensive stock.

Private sell your cars. I recommend a classified ad on Ebay - but not an auction. It was about £16 last time I did it and the car sold within 12 hrs!

If you go to parkers website you can get a good indication of price to put it up for.
