I have been searching for a recipe for Apple Squares, like the ones that can be bought in a bakery. There is a crust on the bottom, stewed apple in the middle and a softer crust on the top. Can anyone help please.

Or they have got lots of other recipes that might do the job!
They sound delicious...Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T0 -
Thanks Supermom, It is a great site and will try out some recipes from it soon. The recipe I am after has a softish pastry base with an even softer topping with the apples in the middle. My mum used to make them, but sadly I didnt get the recipe from her when she was alive.0

I don't have a recipe as such but if you make shortcrust pastry (half fat to flour) using half plain flour and half SR it comes out softer.
Then put stewed apple on top and crumble mix on top of that.
I think I'd bake the pastry blind for 10 mins, put the apple and crumble on and then give it another 20-25 mins in a medium oven
Is this what you mean? The other alternative would be to use sweetcrust pastry, which has sugar and egg in it0 -
What apple square recipe had you tried and tested which tasted out of this world and could be frozen? BTW the person this is for wants plainish tasting apple squares, so no strong taste of spices and they do not want the apple falling out either!0
