It looks as if he did not hand in a P45 when he started this jo. He need to ask his employer for a form P46. he signs this to say it is his only or main job and his employer will put him on emergency code (603L week 1) which will give him some tax free allowances. After 6 April, he will go on to 645L cumulative which will mean his tax will be correct from then on.
He will need to reclaim tax overpaid for this tax year direct from HMRC once he receives his P60 some time in April. he will need to let HMRC know what he has been doing for the whole of this tax year.

As above, this is a basic rate tax code which means all income is taxed at the basic rate of 20%. If this is your partners only job, they should be given tax free personal allowances of £6035, code 603L, and then any further income is taxed at the basic rate of 20%

If this is your partners only job, they need to contact their tax office to advise them this and then a correct tax code should be issued to their employer. You partner is probably also due a tax rebate but they will need to wait until their employer gives them a P60 (end of year certificate showing pay and tax) and send this in to the tax office.
