Can you use £140 of the money you should already have put aside to make up the shortfall?

I know it might sound silly but I really wouldn't suggest going BR if you don't have enough money to buy food and lodgings for the month in your pocket...

Be aware too that if there is £140 in your account at the time of BR, it would be illegal for you to withdraw it without the OR's permission.

Perhaps better to delay it by a couple of days until you have the readies sorted? Sorry :(

it wouldnt be ILLEGAL, there will not be a 6am knock on your door by the "Illegal £140 withdrawal" squad from the met police, £140 is a piddling little amount the OP will loses if the OR freezes/closes the bank account, get it out asap and have an answer ready, though if you dont mention it i doubt the OR will...

Agreed about the knocking on door/met police etc but technically yes it would be illegal unless the OR declared no interest in it.

And the OP can't get it out asap can (s)he as it hasn't cleared. I was just warning them that if it was in there after going BR, they would likely lose it.

how would he (the OR) do that pre-BR then pray tell, he can have NO interest in it TILL the op goes BR.

the OP will lileky lose it to the OR or lose it to the bank or lose it to the court fees...
  • if dragging that £140 out pre-BR was illegal the prisons would be full, at least 99% of BRs that i know have cleaned the banks out before going BR

so thats 180,000 places HMP need extra each year then?

    I know, I said:

I said at the time of BR, not before BR - I.E. once the BR order is stamped.

To be honest I don't really care, I was only trying to be helpful to the OP but I have been shot down by someone who misunderstood what I said, I won't bother in future.

Sorry I'm having one of those days, I do care, but I have no time for people that try and make me look like an idiot and then don't even have the courtesy to acknowledge that what I was trying to say actually did have some merit.
