Weddings abroad

We only want a quiet wedding and we were thinking about a simple registry office, or combining the honeymoon with the wedding.

We are still very much at the planning stage, although we are edging towards the Seychelles.

If anyone has any experience we'd like to know if it's better to book it all with the likes of Thomas Cook, First Choice etc., to book the holiday and the wedding separately, or go through a wedding company on the Internet.

I wouldn't mind if it were a holiday because you can go on another next year if everything goes wrong - money permitting - but you only get married once!

You might actually be better booking the wedding and honeymoon together with one of the travel firms such as Thomas Cook - if you choose an unknown planner off the internet in the country where you want to get married you could end up in a pickle. I am not saying that it the case but it is an unknown quantity - my friend did this and forked out £4000 and hasnt been able to contact the planner since, thankfully I have managed to help her out.

Hope you have a fabulous time and congratualtions on your forthcoming wedding.

Tediousphoenix, you just beat me to it!
Although my daughter has paid a deposit on a venue here, it's very expensive and her H2b has just had his hours cut and no chance of overtime so they are in a bit of a dilemma.
They had thought that if they cancelled the booking, although they'd lose the deposit, if they got married abroad it may work out cheaper because they could also have their honeymoon and some resorts will throw in a wedding package if you book with them - a sort of 'weddingmoon' if you like.
Their chosen date is Christmas so are now looking to see where the best places are for this time of year.
I'll watch your answers with interest!

I'm actually booking our wedding/honeymoon in Fiji at the moment.

I researched this forum and also Tripadvisor for locations.

All I had to do was email the hotel in Fiji where we wanted to stay (after reading lots of reviews of course!) and they are sorting the whole thing out for us. Of course, it is only the two of us, it might be different if you are bringing guests.

We actually booked a round the world ticket and as we stop in Fiji, this is where we will get married.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!

We booked the paradisus rio de oro in Cuba for our wedding. I searched on trip advisor for months before taking the plunge. We booked with first choice, i liked the idea of talking to someone - who may i add was soooo switched on - it installed me with confidence. Plus theres the aspect of the credit crunch which is seeing some smaller less well known (along with some huge well known) companys vanishing - i felt a bit safer doing it this way. All together its cost us just over 4 grand - expensive holiday but cheap wedding and honeymoon plus the location of the actual wedding itself is heart stopping!
