                    hi,
I started a low carb diet last week, and it's all going great so far (Tim Ferriss really is my hero!) anyway, i'm eating 2 eggs each day for breakfast and sometimes for tea too. although i've read that eggs don't increase your cholesterol, i've read that they do as well. fortunately i really love eggs!
anyway, as i have a history of heart disease in my family, i'd like to get my cholesterol levels checked, but the tests look like they cost quite a bit of money online. can i request a cholesterol test at my gps? will they do it for free?i don't even know if they do it as a request (i.e. the gp hasnt requested it) i think they might refuse because i'm in my early twenties. does anybody know?
also its quite hard to get an appointment at my gps, can i get it done ata pharmacists for free?
thanks for any info guys!

Not a medical expert but wasn't the whole business of eggs contributing to bad cholesterol discredited a few years ago?
I don't think you need a cholesterol test personally but I did get one on request from my GP. However I had been told by another health professional to have it checked and the GP did ask why I wanted it and I think was much more sympathetic when I said this. HTH0 -
Your Gp can do a test free, if he thinks you need one.
Its always advisable to speak with your GP when going on a diet, esp one thats seen as radical. It may be that you discussing this change of diet with him and voicing your concerns will prompt him into offering the test.0 -

Total cholesterol is not related to heart disease.
Just look at the facts and then draw a line showing the trend between ‘total cholesterol, men, and ‘cardiovascular disease mortality,
Now look at the situation for women
Try to explain what actually happens in practice
Does lower cholesterol relate to longer lives for females?
Where is the evidence that that lower total cholesterol levels are associated with longer life?
