Marlin Financial Services Ltd

I have received a copy of my credit report from Equifax and there is an entry for the above, who I had never heard of, i've never had any letters from them and they've only just appeared on my credit file. I have phoned Equifax and they gave me a contact number which I tried but it is a wrong number.

Any suggestions on how to move forward from here??

They are a Debt Collection Agency who specialise in the 'purchase' of debts, many of which are unenforceable through the courts:

Have they entered a 'default' on your crf?

I have a default with Online Finance for £1954 with a default date of 07/2003 which at the time I had a trust deed and it was included in that so it now says my balance is zero.

Then I have Marlin Financial Services which has a balance of £1934 and a default date of 07/2003.

I wasn't sure if Marlin had bought the debt from Online finance or not as the balances are too similiar.

Hi Stuckinarut - The balances, as you say, look surprisingly similar. You say that the 'Online Finance' default was dated 07/2003 - in which case, can you remember when you last made any payment, or written acknowledgement of the debt? Chances are that the debt is already 'Statute Barred' and therefore unenforceable through the Courts. Have a look at the following link:

    http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act

If you have made no payment towards the debt, nor acknowledged it in writing, for a period of six years (five in Scotland) then, once you send them the template letter in the aove link, then they can no longer pursue you for payment.

However - since you have heard nothing from them, as yet, I would wait until they contact you. Then, before sending the 'Statute Barred' letter, send them the NDL 'Prove it' letter that you will find in post 3 the following thread:
