Women on 5 live, getting owned, but basically her response was, in amongst other words:

"The VAT cut has worked and has put £270 in each families pockets, unfortunately people are not spending this money and we must do more to get them spending"

She went on to say:

"Mervyn King is backing our policies up and has not said there is no room for further stimulus packages, we are in line with America"

I would like to know who she was, anyone any idea? Only caught it while queueing for me sandwich!!

Sorry I didn't hear this and don't know who she could have been but, purely out of curiosity, what do you mean by "getting owned"?

Getting 'owned or 'pwned' basically means you start a discussion or argument thinking you are correct, only to be proved wrong and humiliation ensues.

As an example, I posted this earlier in a different thread, watch George Galloway 'own' Sen Norm Coleman here. He starts at 2'50. It's worth watching, much the same as Brown got owned by Danial Hannan yesterday.

Don't agree with Galloway's political views in any way, but this is what 'being owned' is.

i used to pwn in a few video games.

basically its from gaming where for example two players are shooting at one another... a player is better than the others so he always kills the other play over and over each time.

Where Player A is the best... killing player B over and over... It can be said that Player A pwned(owned... pronounced wooonneed) player B.

This would usually be followed by a virtual 'tea bagging' exercise to further the humiliation...

I can (just about) accept in this context 'owned' as it is a word in the English language but as far as I am aware 'pwned' is not. Why does 'pwned' basically mean you start a discussion or argument thinking you are correct, only to be proved wrong and humiliation ensues? And how did you find that out?
