We have paid for some tickets with our credit card, tickets have not arrived and the phone lines are dead so we are thinking the worse, would we be able to claim from the credit card company for this.

Also if not happy with response from you credit card then phone up consumer direct. And they will quickly explain what the law is.

PS Good luck0 -
how much were the tickets for ? They need to be over £100 for Section 75 to apply, although it's worth asking the credit card company even if they aren't, as they might help anyhow.
But they'll expect you to have exhausted all your efforts with the retailer first. How long since you ordered the tickets ? If it's for a concert or theatre, some agencies don't send tickets out until a few weeks before the performance. Can you get any evidence that the ticket seller has gone bust - do they have a website, for example ?0 -

Not true, you can take action against the retailer,CC company or both at your discretion; -
WHICH Advice
Consumer Credit Act rights
However, if you paid on credit card, you have another option. Under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, the card company is ‘jointly and severally liable’. This means it is equally responsible along with the retailer or trader for the goods or service, and you can contact the card company to sort out your problem.
You don’t have to reach a stalemate with the retailer or trader before you can contact the company. However, this right is particularly useful if the retailer or trader has gone bust or it doesn’t respond to your letters or phone calls.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
