I think I may have been caught out by Screenselect

OK so I did the 4-week free-trial, and my end date was today, the 27th. I cancelled last Wednesday, when I had ALL 3 discs. I sent them off on Saturday, hoping they'd get back by today. Seems they did, because they've sent me 3 more  Surely if they get back on the date your trial ends AFTER you've cancelled they shouldn't (re?)activate your account. I'm thinking there must be some kind of loophole where your DVD's have to be back BEFORE the exact end date, rather than ON it. Maybe I'm paying the price for sending them back right at the last minute. I've E-Mailed them to see what they say. Meanwhile, it seems likely they have took £15 off my credit card.

Generally they give you a couple of days after the end date to get them back I think. Thats always been my experience anyway.
Edit: Just looked on the Screen select website and it says you have 4 working days for them to have the discs back, so as long as you send them back the day you get them it shouldn't be a problem anyway.

If the link doesn't work, go to help and type in cancel and click the first link it brings back.0 -
I've found this before - they're scammers. I always send the disks back, clear the selection list out, and then only tell them that I want to cancel after they've confirmed that they've received the disks back - at least one disk has always seemed to been 'delayed in the post' when I gave notice to cancel twice in the past...0

That was my way round it aswell.Cleared my rental queue, posted them back then cancelled.I think I actually forsook my last rental to ensure they were back on time though..0

This is something found as well, i cleared my rental queue, sent my last 3 back, amazingly although they were all 3 posted at the same time same box only 2 made it back on time. The last one a few days after the trial end date. So what i did was cancel the debit card i used to register with saying i lost it, bank sent me a new one, they got all disks back but attempted to charge me and payment got declined. Woo Pee !0 -
This happened to us as well, but we got our own back. They kept sending us the disks after we had cancelled and although they charged us a months rental we got a further two months free while they tried to charge our credit card that had expired.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

Still no response to my E-Mail from them  It's a shame, cos for me they have been by FAR the best rental place I've tried.0

Well, I had the same problem with Screenselect. I cancelled my rental (I was a customer for more than one year). I sent my last 3 DVDs back and for some reason (!!) one didn't arrive on time. So they charged me a month rental. I tried to get a refund as I didn't have any DVD from them at home and I didn't want to be one of their customers anymore (and I was convinced they had received all my DVDs on time - no proof though). But no luck... At the end they activated my account back and this time I made sure I sent all my DVDs back ONE WEEK before the cancelling date.
Good luck with them."Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing."0 -
Lovefilm have done the same to me, i cleared my rental list. Phone them to cancel on the day the discs arrived back, 4 days before billing date. They said it was cancelled so imagine my surprise when today I got more discs and they have charged me for there top £19.99 package, even though it was cancelled.
I have phoned them and they said, we can't refund you due to an error with your account, we are having problems closing your account. I stated you have fraudently taken money from my account and will be investigating taking legal action through my card issuer, i asked what they were going to do and she hung up.

Just got this E-Mail from them:-
Thank you for your email.
We can confirm that you attempted to cancel your account on the 22/02/06, however you have not completed the cancellation process, as there was about four/five pages that you needed to go through.
We can confirm that your account is still active and that your next billing date will be on the 27/03/06.
Should you have any more queries, please feel free to contact us again.
Kind regards,
So there was about '4 or 5 pages' to go through, yet when I cancelled it CONFIRMED my cancellation and asked me to provide some feedback? I'm caught between letting this go and having a month of DVD's, and learning a lesson OR getting right on the phone with them asking for my money back.0 -
Be persistant with them. I was a member just before Xmas and they sent a 'free £25 gift voucher - free 3 months membership 1 DVD at a time for a new signup'.
Nothing on the material mentioned that it was a special free trial membership, but when my wife tried to sign up with it, they refused and said that I'd already had a free trial in my own name so they wouldn't let her have one as well (which they insisted that this card was - rather than a free 'gift voucher' as the actual thing claimed to be).
Several email exchanges later including threatening to forward the matter on to their local trading standards department, and they relented and allowed my wife to have the 3 months free. :rolleyes:0
