Easiyo problem

Hi

I bought myself a easiyo yoghurt maker after seeing the great write ups on here.

The thing is no-one will eat it. The texture isn't like bought yoghurt its difficult to describe, but I would say its almost slimy/gluey. My daughter took some in her lunch box and everyone wanted to see the odd looking yoghurt, I gather there were lots of yuks :o

I've tried more or less water nothing makes any difference, it all ends up in the bin, its the strawberry acidophilus flavour. Is this normal?

The drinking yoghurt comes out fine by the way. The greek honey one smelt horrible so that went in the bin before I thought to check texture. Its costing a fortune

Any help appreciated

Yes that is normal, it doesn't come out exactly like bought yoghurt - but then they have stablisers in those. I find it will get more running if it has been out of the fridge a few hours. Have you tried tasting the products before you throw them away? I haven't noticed the texture detracting from the taste. YMMV It tastes fine.

The only way you may get yoghurt to come out like the shops is if you get one of those electric machines - I could be wrong, but even then as it doesn't have stablisers it wouldn't be exactly the same.

    Thanks raeble

Yes the strawberry smells lovely and tastes good, but the texture turns you off its like pva glue. Is it worth trying a low fat one or are they all the same?
  • Have you tried making yoghurt just using a bio yoghurt as a starter and adding UHT milk? I haven't made any for a while now as we tend to eat more in summer, but that is how I usually make it and I end up with a lovely thick greek type yoghurt. I've never used the easiyo system so not sure how that compares.

There are quite a few previous threads discussing yoghurt making if you want to check out the index, which will hopefully answer some of your questions :)

I've got the slimmers one - from what I can recall it is more thick set than the fruit ones. I haven't made it for a while. It will still get runny the longer it has been out of the fridge.

If cost is an issue you can buy a box of cheapo uht milk, use a large dollop of plain yoghurt as a starter in the easiyo container, give it a good shake. Then fill up the flask with boiling water as normal. Leave as normal.
  • I have one of these that I got when i was in NZ, they are really big over there and you can get all the stuff in the supermarket.

Anyhow, my children love anything strawberry, so i bought the strrawberry packet stuff for them and it was horrible.

On the up side I now buy the Bio and add the real fruit squirt to flavour, or add jam or what ever we have around. That goes down a bomb. Only thing does not end up very money saving because they each so much more than a small pot of bought stuff- but I don`t mind as i know it`s good for them.

  • I've tried most of the Easiyo flavours. The strawberry and toffee ones do have the consistency of PVA, but they are nice in smoothies. I really like the vanilla flavoured custard one myself.
  • What about trying to make it a little more 'solid' the kids may prefer that.

It's easy enough, when the normal 6 - 8 hours is up, empty out the water, which will now not be so hot and replace with boiling water and leave for another hour or so. It should significantly alter the consistency..worth a try? They're too dear to be throwing out!

I've tried the strawberry and caramel ones and they came out really gloopy too - it was weird! But the natural plain one comes out fine, like thick regular yoghurt. If you stir it up a little bit then it gets runnier. Once I've used up my pack of six sachets I'm going to try the UHT route - cheaper!
