Lisa
Musical Tool boxes ( cut tool box shapes out of boxes and get DS to colour them in)
Pass the parcel
Musical Diggers ( they have to dance like diggers and stand still when the music stops)
Pin the tool belt on bob. ( draw a bob or use a magazine cut out and blind fold the children so the have to place the tool belt in the right place.
Hope that helps0 -
I had my daughters 4th party at home in december. I had 15 3 and 4 year olds. I asked a couple of mums to help me and all were more than happy as at that age, toilet trips etc, you need a hand.
I did the invites on the computer, pink love heart with details of party on. we played usual games etc. for food I brought party boxes from the local cake/party shop, pink and blue ones 35p each and I put the exact same thing in each box, a sandwich, crisps , choc bar, apple and fairy cake, along with cartons of drink . this way, no food was wasted, everything went in the bin, so no washing up. party bags, few sweets, cake, balloon, stickers and a bracelet for girls - something like 3 for 1.00 in tescos and a toy car for boys that were brought in a pack from tesco very cheaply.
for the age group, how about a makeover party, gets some hair accessories and nail varnish etc and let the girls make each other over, disco dancing game, anyone got a karoke machine or cd that they can dance and sing with. My niece is the same age and loves dancing around etc.
thats me out od ideas...............

I always do parties in a church hall (house isn't big enough) as most the parties the kids go to are in playcentres etc and at 5.99 a head with minimums it would cost an arm and a leg and every party is the same.
This year we did a Charlie and the Chocolate factory theme for DD's 6th birthday. Sent out golden tickets (done on PC) and cheapo chocolate bars for invitations.
Hired a Willy Wonka outfit for me - the great thing about this was that Willy Wonka can be quite rude to annoying children and at this age, they are quite into obeying authority figures! We are quite lucky as both sets of grandparents came and they have been to so many of our parties, they know the routine. Grannies are in the kitchen cooking fishfingers and chips, and are on hand to cuddle tearful children, while grandads take pictures and help out with games. DH also got nabbed with a "helper" sticker which was great. You need a few adults make sure things don't get out of hand.
We did traditional games with a charlie and the chocolate factory theme - eg. they were squirrels and balloons were the nuts - they were in teams and had to race keeping balloons in the air, or again with balloons between their knees etc. I also made gingerbread Oompah-Loompahs for them to decorate and take home.
Food was fishfingers and chips followed by Aldi chocolate mousses. Party bags were minimal - I resent spending fortune on stuff the parents will bin at the first opportunity. Last year gifts were homemade bookmarks, with the children's names on (done on PC and laminated). This year, they were name plaques for the door done in the same with, with pictures of sweets on.
We had a great time and it cost about £50 all in. I made the cake myself - decorated madeira cake with green icing to be Willy Wonka's edible garden, with chocolate river down the middle and lolly pop trees etc.
Looking forward to the next one in September - DS is 4."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
some good ideas here
quite a lot of them don't seem particularly OldStyle though
although maybe a bouncy castle is a modern version of a trampoline
dvd and Mcdonalds just sounds too fast and modern
Oldstyle would be blindmans bluff and pin the tail on the donkey0 -
I remember my fave party from when I was little was at a friends house, and her mum was obviously scared we'd spill stuff everywhere and ruin her new carpets, so she covered the floor and furniture in bubble wrap, and we must have spent at least an hour just bouncing around bursting the stuff. I'm not sure if it was planned that we did this, or jsut lucky, but she was a very wise woman!£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0

I suddenly had some inspiration earlier. My ds's birthday party will be quite close to Easter (april 7th) so have thought that the children could decorate an Easter Basket with crayons & stuff to stick on & then I could fill that with the choc & cake they take home from the party!
Pin the Toolbelt on Bob also sounds fab (post 23 funky fairy).
