Consent to lease - Abbey

Has anyone had any issues with trying to get a consent to lease with Abbey?

I'm looking to rent my flat out for about 8-12 months. I have approximately 91k left to pay on a flat which is worth around 100k on a SVR mortgage.

I'm hoping that Abbey aren't going to be !!!!!! about it and charge some ridiculous rate.
I'm tempted to keep it hush and just rent it out if the consent to lease doesn't work out.
How would Abbey find out anyway? Obviously I would have to get Landlord's insurance, but would Abbey be notified to the change of insurance? (BTW the current household insurance isn't with Abbey)

  • if it were me, i wouldnt tell them, it is unlikely they could find out you are renting it out, they have no checks in place to do this, if you tell them the rates are certain to shoot up and they have strict qualifying criteria, it is very very unlikely ur ins company would have reason to inform abbey either. however renting out does breach your mortgage agreement and if found out can have substantial penalties. its ur call tho.
