Ive no idea of who i owe money too!

Hi, i hope there is someone here who could possibley help me out, i know this is totally irresponsible and i have finally accepted i have to deal with my massive debt problem.

I left work 3 years ago to become a carer for my mother who has been very ill, pre unemployemtn i had a good job with good earnings and paid off c/cards and loans every month no problem. However when i became unemployed the income was drastically reduced and i couldnt pay my bills i ignored or binned letters. I believe i owe over 30k but the letters stopped when i left my previous property and moved in with my mum, what letters i did get from companies i binned and buried my head in the sand.

I have finally accepted i must get my affairs in order as i cannot go on with this massive debt hanging over my head, however i have no idea of who or what i owe.

I Got an experian credit report and nothing shows on it except one small mail order account at £127.00.

How can i find out what or who i owe now!!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :o

It may not be the best advice but I would keep very still and quiet and try not to draw attention to myself...

You need to check the other 2 credit reference agencies as well, Equifax and CallCredit.

    Absolutely terrible advice.

Get your credit report from the other two companies. Experian won't store everything. In my experience, they often don't have all the info that you need (including a CCJ on one occasion!). At least then you'll know what you're dealing with.
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."
  • Thanks for the advice, ive ignored this for too long and i dont want to go on with it hanging over my head. Ill try the two other agencys and see what i information i can get from all three.

Do experian update records, i thought perhaps once the creditors see me looking they would all come running looking for payments. Guess i just dont know how these things work!!!

    Thanks again,

Did you include your old address(es) when you did your search?

They will not follow you (obviously, since you aren't being harassed) unless a DCA gets hold of them and finds you at your Mum's.
  • Yes i included it in the search.

Just tried equifax but have to verify some details with them by phone however they close at 5pm, will try tomorrow!

Just want to get this sorted out, ithink once you accept you have a problem you just want to get moving with it, i could kick myself for being so stupid!

Totally agree. My old flat get repossessed today. For complicated reasons that's a good thing. But it has taken 10 months! Like you say, I wanted to get it all sorted. Ages ago...
