Advice needed please

My 2 daughters attended a nursery school 3 years ago and i took them both out as was not happy with the standard of care. They have been sending me letters periodically ever since saying that i owe amounts for their childcare that i didnt agree with,i stupidly ignored these letters. This morning i received a letter from a debt collection agency saying that if i dont pay in full or set up a monthly payment plan, they would fast track a bankruptcy petition, the thing is they say that i owe £2000 and i really do not agree with this amount, but i have no proof that i dont owe this,i am really worried and do not know what to do.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

  • Have the previous letters always indicated that you owe the £2000, or has the amount increase since the DCA has got involved?

Making you bankrupt will cost the creditor £1500 and there is no guarantee they will get a farthing back, This is bully boy tactics.

Please can you start by getting hold of the OFT and Trading Standards and make a complaint as another DCA has been made to give an undertaking not to send letters such as the one you mention, unless BR is a real possibility.

Then I think a prove it letter to the nursery is in order. what may be happening if they are using a lawyer is that the original debt is being increased massively by the legal costs.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Thanks. The amount seems to have increased to what the original letters stated.I wish that i sorted this out ages ago,but i have been suffering with severe post natal depression and have been burying my head in the sand due to the illness. Are they still classed as a creditor even though they are a nursery?so eg will it cost them the £1500 to make me bankrupt?
