Check out your local yellow pages, thompson, etc for a local school.

Better still, ask around locally for recommendations.

    Advantages:
    1. It'll be a lot cheaper - top whack around here is £18ph for local schools ( you can get it down to £10-12 ph with some haggling, advance booking, block booking etc)
    2. You'll get the same instructor each lesson - you don't always when you book through the big companies
    3. The instructor will be a fully trained and approved driving instructor - the big companies often use trainees to teach you (which is fully legal, strangely) - the small operator will often be a 1 man/woman band.
    4. The instructor will probably be better. He or she depends on getting new business through recommendation so has a personnal interest in giving good service and mostimportantly getting you through the test. The big schools get their bookings through advertising and general awareness.

Does your mum shop at tesco! The vouchers can be used with the deals - ie 4 x the value for bsm lessons

The Tesco thing is great, if you have enough points (if you/your family collect them). For £60 in points you get 6 hours driving, 2 hours on the simulator and a book/cd-rom pack.

If not, there's several other alternatives.

If you have a Connexionscard, YoungScot, UCAS or NUS card, you can get a £2 discount on EVERY LESSON you take with BSM. (Took this info from their website).

Also, if you're with RAC, there's some discounts.

And I think there's a referral system for BSM: if an existing customer recommends you, you get a free lesson and a year's RAC roadside cover if you buy 10 lessons. (PM me if you're interested - I can refer you.)

On a final note, you're lucky if they charge £22.75 where you are... Round here it's £25 per hour  (cheaper if you buy a block of 10 or 30).
