If they go into further education (not Uni) then it stops at 19. If they leave school at 16 then it stops then.

It basically stops when child benefit stops being payable and the PWC can clain CB up until 19 if the 'child' is in FE.

    Hi

My daughter took a gap year and started a college course just before she turned 19. I am paying my ex direct while waiting for the CSA to send their demand as CB is still being paid (or so I am told).

Looks like you can keep on paying CM until they reach 20 as long as they were enrolled or accepted onto the course before their 19th birthday.

No, this is wrong. Under current legislation, child support liability via the CSA, under normal circumstances, is payable until the child reaches their 19th birthday.

Obviously, if there are any arrears due, then payments will continue after the 19th birthday until the arrears are paid off in full.

The age limit may change in future, once the CMEC legislation is approved, but this may yet be some time away.

    Hi Donedoingdebt

    Looks like you are correct...

I have just telephoned the CSA, who were very helpful. CM does stop at 19. I asked about CB continuing to be paid after 19, she said that after 19 it does not matter. CM stops at 19 and that is final.

So why has my ex said that CM is still due, mmmm

Is it on their 19th birthday then? I was under the impression it was until the September after their 19th birthday.

Yes, liability stops on the child's 19th birthday. It does not continue until the next September after their 19th.
