We were lucky enough to win a short break with Pontins and are going a Self Catering Break for 4 nights on 13th April. However as usual trying to look at ways to cut costs and rather than eat out every night I thought about taking food with me.
I really dont want to cook while I am there so I am really looking for a bit of inspiration of something to make and take with me so I can just reheat it. I thought about making a lasagne so I am grateful for any other ideas.
Thanks in advance for any help

Do they provide a fridge - I'm assuming that they probably will. Why not cook and freeze before the holiday, take it with you in a coolbox (still frozen) and allow it to defrost in the fridge there? It's only 4 days so you should be fine for most things (not rice)...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

we went to pontins last year and there is a fridge. to be honest the fast food place was so cheap we ate there one night and went to the chippy on another night. u get given a booklet of vouchers to use in the pub and the club venue for money off food and drinks etc. Its not overly expensive althoug not exactly marvellous food!
how about a cottage pie aswell, you can freeze it and then by the time you come to eat it will be deforsted and ready to just stick in the ovenWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
I would make a big quiche and serve with jacket potatoes and salad, as then all you would have to do is warm it through in the oven, whilst the potatoes cooking.
Lasagne like you mentioned, with some garlic bread
Pasta with a sauce
Vege/meat cottage pie and fresh vegetables
Made me think about what we can take on our holiday now! i was going to cheat and eat out, but it costs so much for the 6 of us, and we usually end up eating all unhealthy stuff and gain a couple of pounds. So thankyou for this thread!0 -
I've stayed at Pontins on a dance weekend - the facilities are basic!
You are likely to get four plates, bowls, side plates, glasses and cutlery but don't expect all the bits and pieces that you use regularly at home - if in doubt take it with you!
Finally - have a good holidayWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Why not make a big pot of bolognese, then you just need to do pasta / spaghetti & add parmesan? Or chilli? Beef/chicken/lamb stew or casserole?0

I agree with cooking the meals before you go and taking them as frozen containers. They will last well in the fridge and you will have 'ready' meals. We take a chilli and a curry, so that all we have to do is cook rice. You could even freeze the rice. Just don't go too mad. Have a plan and make sure you do eat out for a treat too or you might be tempted and end up throwing away all your hard work.
Bagged salads are also good, fruit, cheese and biscuits. We take a couple of tins of baking.
Also, take a veg knife, bread knife, colander and some mugs. It's very annoying having to wash up after every cup of coffee and the mugs in the site shop will be expensive
And washing up cloths, tea towels and hand towels. Why do they get so grubby on holiday?0 -

Dont freeze the rice! Reheated rice is risky for food poisoning., and the travelling time will mean theres plenty of opportunity for the bacteria to develop its best to just boil fresh when you're there. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
I take my small slow cooker and put something in in the morning and then its ready when you want it later in the day0

I like to plan in advance, and I usually take the first ocuple fo meal, tuna pasta bake, chicken curry etc frozen let in thaw out in the journey and Bob is your Auntie's live in lover!
My friend and I then usully make 'tea' in the morning - always a one-pot meal, leave it in fridge, then when we get back - from a day out walking - put in oven. By the time you have had a shower, changed, relaxed and had a brew - 'dinner is served' Puddings are nearly always along the lines of cake and custard - a self catering fav.
We have had a few £9.50 hols and seeing how little we can spend is all part of the fun.Jane 21120
