Ordered White Wedding Dress from Landy!!!I think I made a blunder! Please help!

Hi Guys,
Getting married in April and have found loads of your tips really helpful so thanks for all the ideas!
Basically I ordered my dress (HS0748) from landy in feb and they only had two colour options - white or ivory. I think that fact that the pic they use is in a goldish colour made me think "go for the white". Also the colour I tried on in the shop was antique white so I guess I just thought ivory would be too creamy. By the way I have olive coloured skin.
I was madly excited and picked it up this morning but I'm really not sure about it. To be fair I haven't had a chance to try it on as I'm at work but I kind of think the colour makes it look cheap. It's almost bluish.
It's my own fault I know but I have kind of had to make all these decisions on my own as my mum isn't really interested and none of my friends have married yet so had no one to ask advice.
Just wanted to ask if anyone else got their dresses in white and if so were they happy with it?
Also, worst case scenario, would it possible to dye the dress ivory? (I'm guessing it's not but thought I would just ask).
One more thing, I already had my shoes but have realised they won't match. Any ideas on where to get reasonably price white satin shoes? All the one in debenhams and next etc seem to be ivory.
Thanks for reading this and I appreciate any advice you can give me girls!

Hi,
It depends on the type of fabric used whether or not you can dye it. Was the dress custom made or did you order the standard size? Custom made can't be returned but standard sizes can (but it'll cost you), although as your getting married in April you don't have much time to get another dress. Sorry I can't be of more help re the dress but hopefully once you try it on it'l look different. Someone else should be along soon to offer advice.
As for the shoes, try BHS:

Don't panic hun!
did you open the package at work and do you have 'flourescent' type lights at work because if so this is why the fabric may have a 'bluey' tint to it.
When you get it into a more natural light it should look better.
Wait until you try the dress on before you make any drastic decisions, it may look 100% better once it's actually on you and in a better light.
Can't advise about the dyeing but hopefully you may not need it.
It's a gorgeous dress by the way!0 -
Hi - rather than try and get white shoes to match you could try silver - I saw that Jade Goody wore some gorgeous navy ones with her dress. The same colour as her bridesmaids dresses.
Save me from spending...

White has many shades, blue being one of them.
If you see a piece of ivory fabric, you can be mistaken to think it is white but put it against white, and you'll see the difference.
If it is synthetic you won't be able to dye unfortunately.
Good idea regarding the shoes. Go for silver, works well with white. If you have olive skin, feel lucky. Many ladies cannot wear white as it drains the skin tone.
Relax, you are at work. Wait until you get home and try the dress on. It'll be fine, I'm sure. x
Came back to edit. I think you'll find the dress you have bought is a Maggie Sottero gown and this image will more than likely have been pulled from her catalogue. Which is why you have kind of been "duped" into the colour.0 -
Thanks so much for all your prompt replies. Makes me feel like I'm not on my own with this!
Nat82 - It is custom made so can't return it. Thanks for the link! The fabric is:Taiwan made high quality
bridal satin ( 395 satin)
Other fabrics we used include chiffon, taffeta and organzasal-ad daze - Yeah I think I am panicking a bit! You're right actually. I did just quickly dash outside with it and it looks a bit better! Thanks, I do love the design. This one is slightly different but if the fit is ok and the colour passable I'll be really happy with it.Little Chicken - Thanks, that's a brill idea. My mum actually had silver shoes. Probably much more choice than white too!Thank you so much for all your suggestions, I really appreciate it!I'm going to shoot home now and try it on! I'll let you know how I get on (say a prayer!)!:rolleyes:House Deposit Goal: £25,000 by 01/11/2015 Current savings: £1,3050 -
I'm glad this all seems to be ok!
I read your post and was quite upset! Let us know what it's like when you try it on ....
I think a very white colour with olive skin will look great but what will I know as I'm a bloke!0 -
Hey, hun - I ordered a white Landy dress and I'm thrilled with mine (HS1633).
Lucky you having olive skin - I bet you look a million dollars in it! I have to rely on fake tan! LOL

It'll look better once you get home I am sure...As someone else said hte lighting in offices is notoroiously bad...
As for the shoes my dress is white but I am getting my shoes from BHS and they only do Ivory...As someone else said to me people won't look at your shoes that closely under a dress....0 -
Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for all your positive and helpful replies!
I got myself in quite a state about it and you helped calm me down.
I think I just got myself over excited about my dress being here and went into a hysteria when it wasn't what I expected!
I went home and tried it on and am pleased to say it's lovely! Once I had it on in natural light it was fine.
snowdrop 22 - Thanks for your message! Nice to get a bloke's perspective. The first thing I wanted to do when I was unsure was show it to my partner for his opinion but obviously I couldn't!
Minxy_Bella - Thanks for the vote of confidence! Your dress is gorge! I was contemplating that one too! Glad to hear I'm not the only one to order white. One unhelpful friend I asked earlier (whilst in the height of my hysteria lol)was aghast and said that she thought I knew that "everyone orders ivory"! Not very helpful really! Glad I had you girls (and guys) to turn to for some reassurance!
Neh - Yes, the lights did not do it justice! I'm going to have a think about the shoes. I do really like the ivory ones I have as I didn't want pointy shoes and they are the only reasonably priced round toe ones I found (£40 from debs). Thinking about the pic when you get out of the car though.............I think they'll show. Might have a word with the photographer so he can cut them from the frame.
One other thing I wanted to ask you all. I've ordered a white veil (from ebay of course!), and I told the seller that my dress is white satin. They replied that I should get an off white veil but seeing my dress I'm pretty sure I should get the bright white. Don't want it to look darker than the dress. You guys agree?
Once again thanks for all your wise words and suggestions and sorry for being a psycho lol! I don't usually freak out so easily! You're all brilliant for taking time to help me out!
Have a lovely evening
