What will the UK look like in 10-20 years time?

Some of the smaller countries such as Denmark and Israel are already in the process of switching to electric cars, and changing not just the cars themselves but the whole infrastructure;

How are we going to produce the electric for these cars ?, again on any scale that we are used to, a huge and I mean a huge infrastructure of solar and wind turbines would have to be introduced, and if we did this (which isn't possible on any kind realistic timetable), just as the last turbine was constructed, we would hit 'peak lithium'.
Next;)............. it's not looking good is it.0 -
I think the UK will be something like the film 'Brazil'0

investing in these technologies could provide new jobs and re-invigorate the economy.Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Ah, but what of the Human spirit and determination when push comes to shove.
Every generation has it's sceptics that ALWAYS tell us it can't be done. That attitude is not realistic, it's merely inconsequential. Nothing would ever change with such a mind set. Read the history on more or less every significant scientific advance where the sceptics knwoingly inform us all it will never come to pass.
Nuclear fusion is getting close, genetically engineered organisms that expell gas are far from science fiction, immense UK wave potential, wind, solar, hydrogen and good ole nuclear of course - which if push comes to shove WILL come about in time.
People said man would not go to the moon. Greenpeace activists were certain armageddon was moments away - these council of dispair types give us no answers, no momentum.0 -

An uplifting post Conrad, and I commend you on that, I will agree that we may just be saved by the bell, and I hope we are (I do have a child), however I'm just commenting on what the situation is now, with the available knowledge we have now. Nuclear fusion seems to be our only light at this time, to have any hope of the world's 6 billion people living as they do now, but it's a very dim light. It's decades away, and may never come to pass. Everything else you mention requires amounts of material that will all be peaking in the coming decades, some are much, much closer than the general public imagine.0 -

Hydrogen wont be peaking for several trillion years.
Wave, wind and solar combinations could make a big dent if we have the will. Honestly, I'm not bleak at all on energy as we will find a way.
I am however very concerned at the growth in world population, mostly because I'm a nature lover and see Humans as locusts on the planet ravaging it's resources. I noticed on a trip to Asia lots of fat kids that had bought hook line and sinker into the whole hiphop / Macdonalds / FACEBOOK / Cocacola / NIKE / Motorola kind of lifestyle. Jusr so out of tune with nature and so in tune with concrete and manmade nothingness.0 -

Hydrogen has to be produced (i.e electrolysis) which consumes more energy than is released when used as a fuel, not a good start. As far as 'we will find a way', that's not very scientific, my opinion is a way may well be found, but it will be too late to keep us as we are now.0 -
